Reunion 2008

Looking for reunion t-shirt logo information? You can send us your sizes and colors here.

(Update 8/13/07) There are now close to 50 of us confirmed for the 2008 Reunion (March 8-9) in Laconner! Still a few confirmations pending, so please check and update the attendees list below (or email Isaac).

The venues look GREAT for the reunion! Jean has confirmed Saturday dinner at 5 p.m., March 8th, “Wedin Party” – UPSTAIRS at the La Conner Seafood and Prime Rib House. Please be there by 4:30…dinner will be served promptly at 5. We need to have an accurate count for adults and children, and also note how many high chairs. Jean is hosting dinner and covering the cost for the dinner (thanks Jean!).

Jean has reserved the Garden Club for Brunch on Sunday (the 9th). We will need to cover the cost on this, and also provide food, beverages and plates, silverware, etc.

There are plenty of good lodging choices (See Lodging Ideas below). Although it’s off-season, there IS a conference in La Conner March 8-9, so it would be a good idea to book your selection early.

If you’ve made a post at wedin.org before, you can edit this page yourself, adding details, ideas, and attendees. If you confirm lodging, you can note that on the attendee list. If you’re not an active org-poster, or if you just want to give some feedback, you can post a comment or email content to isaac@wedin.org.

Lodging ideas:

(5/7/07 update) Jean has checked into several lodging options in LaConner. There is a group rate available (Jean has details) at the LaConner Channel Lodge and La Conner Country Inn. Both are on the web at: http://www.laconnerlodging.com/ She also checked out some very affordable accommodations at the Tulip Inn, Mount Vernon (a 20 minute drive from La Conner)…their site is at: http://www.tulipinn.net/

There are a few La Conner lodging links at del.icio.us/isaacwedin/laconner. Sharing a whole house could be cost-effective – for instance, Katy’s Inn is $450 a night and can hold 13. Booking soon would probably be a good idea though. Some of us booked Katy’s Inn, but there are likely similar places still available.

Some things to do:

  • isaac…nice job on this! i just made a few informal tweaks to the attendees list, and hopefully we’ll get firm names and numbers in the next week or two. i count over 25 confirmed so far, and that could easily double by the time everyone logs in and confirms. pretty cool! has anyone mentioned to jean that we’re all bunking at her place? i’m thinking deb should make that call. ha. anyhow, so far so good, and the tentative dates (March 8-9, 2008) seem to be working for everyone so far. We should be able to lock that weekend in once everyone is in the loop. l,j

  • We have a time share place over in deer harbor, is the 80 minute ferry ride Anacortes going to be too long of a commute for events?

    Jon

  • jon…cool! orcas island is beautiful, and my vote is to BOOK it. you may want to check ferry schedules. i know service is regular to friday harbor, but not sure about frequency to orcas. anyhow, you could always book one night in la conner for saturday night (we might go a little late that day/evening, and the ferry logistics with the kids that night might not be a lot of fun). but for the rest of the time, you can probably get back and forth just fine. and, san juan weather is a real bonus…about half the rainfall of seattle. anyhow, maybe we can plan to visit you there before or after the reunion…the san juans are one of my favorite places. also, if you have time, you might want to visit victoria…we might join you for that adventure if it works out. l,j

  • Well, since hearing from Markay this morning, I decided to try doing an edit and I think I was successful! Bad-with-computer grandpa managed to get the Brown’s listed and entered. Wahoo! On the tracking Tim trail, will anyone with info about Joe’s family send that along. That might help. Take care. Pete

  • pete…nice job! and great to see that ericka, kurt and the kids will be there. that was my first attempt on the page, too (made several adds to the attendee list)…pics and stuff are pretty easy, too, but i had to get some help from isaac on positioning and such…there’s a “visual edit” mode that makes it a little easier if you’re interested in that. got your email on tim’s address…was hoping i’d transcribed it incorrectly. fyi, my letter came back “no such number.” had the same thing happen with a christmas present about 10 years ago…hopefully, he’ll surface soon. l,j

  • just heard (and saw on the roster) that Dan, Kelly, Taycee, Addison, and Ella were confirmed. very cool. looks like we’ve topped 40 at this point, and hopefully we’ll be nudging 50 before long. of course SOME of us nudged 50 a looooooong time ago. ha.

accommodations shouldn’t be too urgent for booking next march, but several folks have suggested that we book the community center (name?) pretty soon. probably a good idea since there may be some local events going on that weekend. any thoughts on making that happen? maybe we should open a “Reunion Account” for incidental expenses like that. Wouldn’t take much, eh? l, j/d/gp

  • Hey Jack:
Just saw your suggestion for the account and booking the hall. Yes to both I say! First, we should call Jean and confirm the suitability of the “garden club” place. Sounds like there is a sufficient kitchen and can accommodate 50 inside. That should do it with spill over outside. I like the option of some of us cooking there, although there has been suggestions toward catering. I like to cook and if anyone else does, I think it would be fun. Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch, eh? Should be pretty easy. We could make a bunch of cinnamon rolls prior and maybe have waffles and lots of eggs and bacon, ham, and sausage. Some smoked salmon would be great. Coffee from all over…everyone’s favorite and we could line up a few Mr. Coffee’s to have a variety. Okay Isaac, we could get as French press, too! Would be very fun. Dinner Saturday….I can see lasagna, a case or two of crab, scalloped potatoes, big salad, sauteed veggies, maybe bbq salmon. Mary P and Duke might want to chime in with Kalua Pork? Yum. Maybe a big cake. Fresh fruit. I don’t know, but if this family can’t pull off a dinner and a brunch, I don’t know a family that can! Let us know where to send the contributions to the fund (maybe Jean could hold the $) All for now. Anxious to hear from Tim and Dan and Allyson. Everyone else is on board, right? Love you all….Pete

  • hey pete…that all sounds great! once we have the roster fairly well nailed down, we could see how far a potluck approach gets us. might be fun for anyone who’s interested to contribute a favorite dish or item, then supplement with fresh-grilled (or baked/broiled) stuff. anyhow, makes sense to include some family-favorite heat ‘n serve pre-prep dishes for dinner, and you’ve named some good options there. for my part, i’d be glad to herd a few a few rib steaks and/or king fillets on the BBQ, and cheri makes a great potato and/or broccoli salad. anyhow, we could see who might be interested in cooking and/or pre-prepping for the spread, and build a menu from there. sounds like great fun! depending on weather and a good supply of glucosamine and ibuprofin, it’d be fun to have some activities lined up for saturday, too. touch football would be great…horseshoes …maybe badminton or volleyball…or???

anyhow, yeah…let’s get the facility booked asap. haven’t heard back from jean on my note awhile back, and i don’t think she’s been org’in it lately, so we ought to give her a call and find out what it’ll take to book the hall/club and send her a check. and yeah…we should get a reunion fund started. doesn’t need to be much…if we went with $10 a head, that would be close to $500 already. yada-yada. more soon. l,j

  • Was good to talk to Jean today and wow, is she excited! The Garden Club will be reserved for the 8th and 9th and she is insisting on covering that cost. She had spent some time today touring the Tulip Inn near Mount Vernon and the rooms there are like $69 for two Queen beds and $74 for a King room. She said they were nice and very clean. About twenty minuted from LaConner. For food, she suggested we get some Costco chickens and veggy plates and make the meals as simple as possible. She emphasized that no one should be stuck in the kitchen, so that we could all visit. Am hoping that Mary P or Deb has extended an invitation to Dan, Sandy, Andrew, Allyson and husband. Still need to track Tim down, but maybe that could be done next Fall. Anyhow, looks like it’s coming together. Love, Pete

  • pete…that all sounds good. jean is confirming capacity at the garden club…hopefully, it’s more than 49, but we may have to plan around that. on the tim trail, i just got my second letter to him back marked “not deliverable as addressed.” not sure what that means exactly, but if anyone has another lead, let me know. as for cooking, i think if anyone wants to prepare something, that should be available…otherwise, i’m all for keeping it simple. i’d be up for grilling something. or not.

i mentioned jon’s and lisa’s timeshare on orcas. jean confirmed that they’d definitely want to book something on the mainland for saturday night, possibly in anacortes. more soon. l,j

hi guys…talked to Jean today and she is very excited about all this!!! I told her Peter and I would come up and take some pictures of the garden club inside and out, and she mentioned possibly doing a meal at some place that has a big room upstairs and having it catered there…we will check that out as well. She mentioned to me about having all of it catered because she wants us to have a chance to visit and not have to be busy in the kitchen…good point but I’m up for anything. The outside garden at the garden club is pretty small and it sits on the hill above the town so touch football wouldn’t work there…however there is a park close by within walking distance. Jean said the building will only hold 80 people. Don’t think that will be a problem?!?! Anyway let me know if there is anything you want me to check out while I’m there and I will bring pictures and all in June. Take care Love, Priss

  • hey priss…that sounds terrific. jean called and shared some of what you and deb talked about. good stuff. only second thought here is that we might want to leave it open on dinner prep for anyone who wants grille or prepare something. i don’t think any of us wants to spend hours in the kitchen or on the grille, but if someone wants to cook or grille something, let’s keep that option open. meanwhile, if there’s a good catering option for some/most of dinner, that sounds good to me. also, we probably want to do our own prep on brunch on sunday…at least, that’s what i’ve heard so far. on the garden club capacity, i thought jean said “50″…may have heard that wrong. she said that didn’t include “little ones”…not sure what that means, but i think it means we’ll be ok on capacity. let’s confirm that soon. and, jean mentioned the lodge scenario there in town (the inn and the waterfront place). jean said she could get a group discount for both (they’re owned by the same people)…we just need to find out how many would be interested. also…a couple of nice condos if anyone wants to go that route. so…i’ll try to get links to the in and waterfront lodge on the reunion pages soon…also, we can upload those pics you take of the garden club. it all sounds pretty darn great! l,j

  • Hello Everyone:
Talked to Jean this morning and she had met with the Lodge and Inn manager and checked availability and price for our reunion lodging. There are three rooms at the Lodge (waterfront) left for that weekend at $179 each (special rate) I think getting the rate requires us to book all three, but I’m not sure. At the Inn, there are seven rooms available including two “family” rooms (one king and two twins in a suite arrangement for $199, one “garden” room for $160, and four regular rooms (I think kings) for $139. I am not sure if the rate requires more than one nights stay. Anyhow, let’s all check in here with our thoughts and what we can commit for and then we can either book these or have Jean meet with the manager again and confirm how many rooms at what rate. I like the idea of all of us being in town at least for Saturday night and the two places are close together, so walking is definately an option.
Jean also talked with the folks at the Seafood and Prime Rib House and they have a large banquet room that is free with a catered meal. This seems like a good option for the Saturday dinner and gets all of us out of the kitchen and into the visiting. We could still rent the Garden Club for Sunday Brunch, which will be much easier to gather from Costco, etc. and using paper plates, etc will get us out of allot of clean-up. Those that need to get on the road to get back to work on Monday can do that and those of us that want to linger for a day can help clean up afterwards. I am thinking of booking a room for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. The Inn is a bit closer to Jeans, so I may opt for that.
As soon as we decide on the Saturday dinner, Jean will secure the Garden Club. We can decide on a menu for the dinner and have that room reserved. That place overlooks the canal and has a deck.
All for now. Hope everyone is having a joyous Spring. Love, Pete

  • I think we are going to stay at Katy’s place for at least Saturday and maybe the whole time. We are looking forward to the reunion.

  • Space for tents available in English garden for Reunion 2008; house is FULL. (But remember, Baby, it’s cold outside- particularly March!)

  • speaking of tents, it might be fun to rent one of those pavilion-style tents for the english garden in case of wet weather. we could erect it in the open area just in front of the back porch. thoughts? l,j

  • WOW: Just too cool to see Grandma Jean in the comments here! Way to go, Jean. I’ll bet you are hungry for salmon about now, but rest assured, we are thinking about you and we will be catching the “family” fish soon. I am so looking fwd to this reunion…am hoping we can get everyone there. Great shots of Wedins in LaConner recently….good job, Jack! You are the group shot master. You all have a wonderfukl evening….I know we are here. Love, Pete

  • pete…fun comment! and yeah, jean has lined up some great venues there. laconner is the perfect place…the restaurant (we’ll have the whole upstairs room and deck to ourselves) is terrific, and the garden club will be GREAT for sunday brunch…looks like a wing of the tokeland hotel from the outside. oh yeah…wanted to confirm that we had a “wonderfukl” evening here, too! ha. got up to 80 in anchorage today…hottest 8/13 since 1950-something! l,j

  • Talked to Jean today….not sure she can contain herself until March! It IS fast approaching now that summer seems to be over here, so not too early to nail down lodging and begin thinking about travel. Debra and I are going to be at Katie’s Place with I+M and am not sure who else has decided to join us there. I think there is room for 13? Anyhow, Jean wanted to make sure that we all would plan on being at the Seafood and Beef place by 4:30, as they are serving at 5 sharp. All for now, I’ll follow up with a e-mail to Jack. See ya. Pete

  • pete…i think i got most of this scoop in the latest update to the reunion copy above when i revised it after our trip. but…glad you mentioned 4:30 for the dinner…i had noted 5 p.m. (serving time), and i know jean was concerned (rightfully so) that some might arrive late for dinner. also, the gillian-wedins are booked at the condo on the water there…it’s just a few doors down from the restaurant. lisa and jon are planning to stay at katie’s, too. not sure if they’ve booked it yet, but that was their plan (we checked it out when we were there…cool place!). anyhow, it would be good to make sure everyone else is booking…jean mentioned a conference in la conner that weekend, so even though it’s off-season, lodging avails could be tight. more soon…time for football practice (seems like it always IS time for football something). l,j

  • Hello Everyone:
Time is flying and things are getting done. The t-shirts and cd will be great momentos.
We need to do a little planning for the brunch, though. I started a quick list of things that would be on a normal brunch table like beverages, meat, cheese, fruit, and veggie trays, eggs, cookies, croissants, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and of course, condiments of all kinds. Some folks have shown interest in bringing something from home, for instance, I can bring a bunch of smoked salmon. Maybe, if you guys want me to, I can draw up a matrix and then contact folks and those that want to take on a square or two of the matrix, we would have it covered. There can still be a two-three person team to make a Costco/Safeway run at the last minute to fill in the blanks. We probably need to plan for about 50-60 people, including children. It will be fun to see who sees this comment. Isaac, can we update the top of this page into an “update” with all the things that have been decided and then I can print it off and mail it to the addresses where there is a chance that the info is not getting shared via the org? Forty days to the reunion! Love, Pete
