Jean visits Anchorage!
What a fun time we’ve had during Jean’s visit to Anchorage! We kicked things off with Friday’s delicious dinner at the Millennium where a full course of Wedins, Burpees and Gillians served up food and fun. Jean, Jessica and I “did” Nordstrom and the 5th Ave. Mall on Saturday morning. Jean and the size petite jeans were the story of the day. On the way back to the hotel, we took a quick peek at a beautifully designed and artful garden in Inlet View; a perfectly lovely one I’ve made a point of watching evolve over several years. You can find a slide show of that garden on the Better Homes & Gardens Website, http://www.bhg.com/gardening/gardening-by-region/design-the-perfect-garden/. A salmon and steak BBQ on the Wedin Burpees’ resort-like deck was the story of the evening. Jessica’s rhubarb crisp, topped with fresh whipped cream, was still warm from the oven! Yesterday, the rainy weather didn’t keep the Gillian-Wedin-Burpee crew from a drive down the Arm, and up the tram to to top of Mt. Alyeska. Jean’s energy is amazing and she’s full of colorful stories. We’ve really enjoyed her stay. Safe travels to Homer.

Sure sounds like you have been having some great fun, we are looking forward to some more. Isaac and Mandi got here last night and we have been enjoying their visit immensely.
I went to a garden tour down here and it was so much fun. Someday maybe Pete’s gardens will be on the tour.
Looking forward to having Jean here with us this afternoon! Love Debra

How great to have family here, eh? I’m looking forward to seeing M & I myself. Guess we’re dining w/Mandi on Wed. Wish we could get down to Homer, but it hasn’t been in the cards. Be sure to show Jean the garden slide show on your computer. She was hoping I could find it on the Better Homes & Gardens site. What is growing in Peter’s garden?

I believe he’s growing a mixture of hempnettle, fireweed, horsetail, and cow parsnip.

what? no oplopanax horridus? just kidding. meanwhile, i looked up hempnettle and i think we had quite a crop of that on the property there in republic (lower slopes of mt. elizabeth). when first discovered, i was sure it was…well, drop the “nettle” part. l,j

great post and pics. i’ll add that flightseeing on saturday was big fun, too. based on the low approaching from the south, we headed up the valley and hoped to catch a glimpse of mc kinley in the bargain, but another approaching system had already wrapped it up in a billowy quilt of clouds…fortunately, the valley was clear and beautiful. sure wish we could have grabbed a group pic of all the AK wedin-gillian-burpees in the bargain, but tough to pull that off this time of year. hope the homer visit is big fun this week…we’ll look forward to dinner on wednesday night. l, j/d/gp

How was the “Nordstrom II” trip yesterday? Glad you could take the day off and do that with Jean. Looks like decent weather today in Homer and light winds, and yes…rain or shine, I think Jean will love Homer …and reminiscent of LaConner…with a view! l,d

We had fun at Nordstrom. We had a very tasty breakfast at the cafe. I forgot how good the food is there. Jean got another pair of jeans. Unfortunately they didn’t have sweaters in yet.
