Happy Birthday Debra

Hope you are having a fun (if a bit stormy) birthday celebration at work today. I’m all set to make your dream dinner come true. No, not out to Cafe Cups, not steak, shrimp, or scallops, but “just Ramen”. I’ll try to jazz it up a bit. This is our 36th birthday together and they keep getting better, well, except the menu! Love, Pete

  • first, HAPPY BIRTHDAY debra! and yeah, the weather should ensure it’s a warm, spirited celebration! wow. pete, these are GREAT photos…a wonderful montage of expressions, locations, family and…KING salmon! that’s a terrific shot of debra and the grand daughters. and, i love the one at the heritage center. debra looks beautiful in that dress. and…the pic of debra with sam and jake out on the porch there is one of my favorites. so, again…HAPPY BIRTHDAY! many more of them (birthdays AND posts), too. l, j

  • Happy birthday mom! That top-right photo is my favorite…

  • Mine too. Hope to see you this weekend. I will keep my eye on the road report. Jon had a tough drive today. He hit every sort of weather. Ramen sounds great.

  • Don’t change the Ramen, I like the simplicity of it. Isaac, I don’t like that photo but it’s historical.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, to Ben and Jessica and the girls for the calls…..Lisa, don’t take any chances even though we would love to see you all………..love Debra

  • Happy, happy, happy birthday Debra! We love and miss you. -m.

  • when pete said “jazz it up a bit,” i ignored the disclaimer and pictured ramen noodles accompanied by scallops, clams, shrimp and crab. i’d like to see a picture of this “just ramen”…i’m betting it’s kinda like, “just Abalone en Paillote”… :-)

  • A follow-up to the Ramen recipe. If I had clever “bubbles” to add to photos, the one on the upper right would have read: “Don’t mess with my Ramen”. It was good….reminded me of being younger, so was worth it. I kinda like the grown-up pasta these days, myself. Brother Robert called in as well and Aunt Mary sent two very nice hand-sewn soft fuzzy blankets. There are two, so when you come, you can snuggle up with Debra on the couch! Lisa, you better snuggle in there in Anchorage this weekend. At best, the trip would be a white-knuckle affair. Blustery here, but the forcast still hints at going fishing tomorrow. I’ll post a photo if it happens. Love, Pete PS: I now know the proper way to prepare Ramen and will post on the recipe page soon.

  • Happy Birthday Mom. I am glad we all got a chance to talk to you yesterday.
    Love, B,J,M,M,A

  • Ben, you and Isaac are good sons….am proud that you remembered to call your Mom. It means more than you know. Was so glad to hear you were a responder, rather than victim in that accident. Amazing how people freak out, huh? Glad it is the weekend….everyone can take a breath and brace for what comes next week. I am hoping to get out of the harbor tomorrow. Have a good weekend. Love, Dad

  • oops! I had the wrong e-mail in there and that one went to moderation and a new gravatar!

    • If you log in before commenting you don’t have to worry about entering an email address. Alternatively, you can add addresses at gravatar.com, using the same avatar so we know who you are…or you could bring back Ponch for the alt address.

      • Did you get my e-mail with the caribou pic? That caribou actually froze standing about a mile from one of our rigs. I guess one of the guys got a shot of the unfortunate beast being eaten by a fox. The picture I sent was taken by someone with a good zoom on his camera. I have never seen that before.
        Love, Ben

  • Thanks, Isaac. I need to get used to that….have always been able to just comment without logging in. Need to log in each time, I guess. Today, the fields were filled in and last night, they were blank and I entered in the info, inadvertently adding an r to my name. No biggee. So, did you correct the username in moderation? The weather is a bit iffy, but I think I have some guys that want to go anyway…non-revs, but I’m anxious to get out anyway. Love, Dad

    • Yeah, I corrected it – since it was moderated anyway it was easy. There’s a box you can check when you log in that should keep you logged in for quite a while…unless your browser is deleting cookies, or clearing your browsing history. Clearing your browser history would also prevent the comment form from getting automatically filled in for you. If you’re adding an ‘r’ to your email address a lot we should probably have a forwarder set up for you…

  • (At this late date, seems there’s no need to comment on the top-right photo, so I won’t.) All the best to you, Debra, as you celebrate your riches–family, friends, food (ramen, in particular!). Your life as chronicled in the photos above looks to be colorful and beautiful, like you yourself. Happy birthday. ~Love, Cheri

  • Hey Cheri:
Thanks for the comment on the post….kinda got off track on those caribou. Amazing how many folks I mention Ramen to that actually rave about the stuff. There are probably billions of fans! Debra birthday bouquet finally all opened up and is gorgeous….a mix of iris and orchids. Had a beautiful day on the Bay today and Debra had a quiet day at home. Love, Pete

Happy belated Birthday Debra! I did think of you on your day but didn’t make it to the org. I have been hot on the job hunting trail for a few weeks. Duke went back to work last week…wasn’t really releas’ed yet but….that’s another story. So is this “ramen” top ramen? Or are we talking the real stuff you get in the freezer section? like to drop a whole egg into it after its done and put a plate on top so the egg gets soft boiled….sounds gross but its really tasty. Not that we eat that salty stuff in this house anymore. ; )

    • After a lot of eggs benedict in New Orleans we went on a poached egg kick – they’re soo easy to make and so good. No ramen for me but on top of chili…

    • I just wanted to say that how good it was to hear that Duke was back in the saddle. Hope it is not too soon, but I totally can resemble that! Am pretty sure it is fairly slow about now, eh?, so not a bad time to ease back into it. Please let us know if a little infusion of low-fat, omega-3 rich fish would be needed. We finally got the crab pot back out there today and celebrated the 18-keeper pick. Four for us, four for my helper, and ten for the three clients. Not bad! Isaac….I LOVE poached eggs, but really like them poached in milk. And Priss, we were just referring to the very cheap and common “Top” Ramen stuff. Love, Pete

  • Hi again,
It’s the top ramen all right Priss! I talked to Rebecca in St. Thomas yesterday and she said they have it at McDonald’s in Hawaii. We had it again tonight. Guess what else? We hired a new girl Monday and she told me today that her birthday is January 15! Two Capricorns born on Marthin Luther King’s birthday in one office…..go figure.

Anyway, thanks for all the birthday comments, I definitely enjoyed hearing from all my girls including Mandi and Jessica. And Cheri, sure miss seeing you, here is to seeing more of you in 2009!

    Love Debra
