Our Favorite 49er and Tuesday Night Football

Senior Captains Final GameSemiFinal Captains

Jake played his final varsity game for West last Saturday.  Although he’s played DE and LB mostly this season, he got a carry at fullback and had a nice 3 yard gain right up the middle.  West started the season with 35 players and only 25 made it all the way.  We are so proud of Jake for sticking out a long, tough season in only his second year of football.  West was in a 4 way tie for the final playoff spot, but Dimond won that spot on the head-to-head tiebreaker.  Watch for Jake and a few of his teammates in an upcoming PSA TV spot for Alaska School Activities Association.

Sam’s Romig Eagles won their semi-final game today 33-7 and will play for the City Championship Monday Night at Anchorage Football Stadium.  Our line played their best game all season, and the defense was heroic.  Sam threw two TD passes…one for an extra point.  If we win Tuesday night, we play for the State Championship on Monday 10/13 at Chugiak.  Of course, it’s one game at a time, so we’re not looking past Tuesday night.

Hope everyone is having a GREAT weekend!  L, j/d/gp

    Hey Jack and Jake:
Thanks for the post….you don’t have to remind us how brave Jake was for sticking it out….VARSITY sports no matter what sport is tough! The young athlete has to perform and work hard and the family has to sacrifice (and do alot of driving). There is fundraising and cheering in the rain and mud. Sorry we did not make it up for a prettier game, but it was good to see you out the, Jake and awesome to read your name (number) in the paper after last weeks gain. WTG! Not sure of making it to one of Sam’s games. I worked (I can’t believe I said that!) at the boatyard Friday and the owner asked me today how much I “wanted” to work in the future. We were fishing together on the JL in the annual Elk’s King Tournament….didn’t touch a king and we are all still friends. We have tomorrow to redeem ourselves. Wish us luck! Have a great Sunday…still pulling for Duke! Take care. Love, Pete

pete…your comment took me back to lisa’s years cross-country skiing…doesn’t seem that long ago, but i guess it’s been a few (quite a few) years now. those experiences at that age - the challenges, hard work, triumphs and even the defeats - are invaluable. and i got goose bumps every time lisa crossed a finish line. good stuff. got a note from harry tonight…he’s so excited about the hunt, he may bust! looking forward to getting football behind us…jake and i will have a couple weeks to prep, but we’ll make it. good luck on fishing tomorrow! best i can report here…cheri and i “caught” some 4.99 rib steaks at costco this afternoon. oh yeah…and the “Ironman” DVD…great movie! more soon. l,j
