List of reunion brunch stuff

In the table below I’ve scraped together stuff and volunteers from the various comments I could find. It’s looking pretty good now, but if you’d like to add an item please comment on this post, email reunion@wedin.org, or give your favorite ORGer a call. When it seems complete I can make a pretty, printable version.

Item Volunteer
beverages (coffee, tea, juice), chips & salsa Priss
plates & utensils Jon & Lisa
smoked salmon, bagels, cream cheese Pete & Debra
cheese & fruit Isaac & Mandi
veggie trays Ericka
cobbler! roast beef/turkey/ham. ice cream, toppings, cones, strawberries, etc. Markay & Garry
chips Garry Gene
prawns & sauce Tim
Wiferated Eggs (eggs & ingredients), soft drinks Jack & Cheri
breads and condiments Deb

I started this just for brunch, but most of these things sound like they’d be great for both snacking Saturday and for brunch on Sunday. I presume we can decide Saturday how much stuff we’ve got and how much we can spare for snacking?

I was tempted to comment on the shirt post (to say how flattering the shirt was on that model), but a chance to be first on this post was too tempting. THANK YOU, Isaac for posting the food list/volunteer form. This will get us started. Priss, we will be at a Cafe Ladro on Wednesday morning and we’ll pick up a pound or two of ground coffee there. I will probably get some beans to bring home, too. I LOVE their coffee. Isaac took me to the one in Queen Anne and then we went to the one in Edmunds where Jacque worked. We will get something else besides the fish. Maybe bagels and croissants? Bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon goes well. Talked to Lisa today and she is already packed! We are jazzed, but disappointed that it looks pretty iffy that Ben/Jess and the twins will be coming. Anyhow, we are looking fwd to getting on the plane next Tuesday and we will see you ALL in LaConner next weekend! Love, Pete

Okay this is great!!! thank you Isaac. I talked with markay today Here’s what I learned: Ericka is bringing veggie trays, Markay will bring cobbler and various breads. Garry Gene will bring various chips. Priss will also do salsa and chips. And Pete don’t worry about grinding the coffee for the brunch I will be bringing the grinder. I also love Ladro coffee but i will get some espresso beans anyway for us who like it really dark!!!! So what do you guys think about sandwich fixings? Maybe a meat and cheese tray or two? Markay and I were trying to think of easy transportable stuff that doesn’t have to be cooked? Tim said he will bring Prawns and cocktail sauce…okay thats all i know so far!!!! love Priss

HEY…great list isaac. thanks. sorry to hear about ben and jess, but know they have a lot going on (and coming up) right now. we’ll definitely miss them, but look forward to all 5 of them at the NEXT reunion! cheri found a recipe for the sunday brunch that is quick, easy, fun, AND maximizes visiting time…also, it allows each person “make their own” and is so easy the kids can do it, too…i’ll post that here later. for our contribution to the brunch menu, we’ll put our heads together here and try to add ours to the list nlt tomorrow morning. as a starter, we’ll bring fixin’s for the above recipe…we can also bring some basic soft drinks (and try to go mostly non-caffeine for the kids). also, we have saturday AND sunday…is everyone figuring on light snacks and drinks for saturday? we have dinner at 5, so that will probably work. more soon. l,j/d/gp

Sure I will hit Trader Joes Jack for some good snack stuff. I’m excited to hear about your recipe…sounds like fun. This is going to be so much fun I can’t wait!!!

  6. Markay Says:

I talked with Deb this morning and we decided to switch food items. Garry and me will now bring sliced roast beef, turkey and ham. Deb will bring the assorted breads and condiments. We will also bring vanilla ice cream for the cobbler and also set up a banana split bar/sundae for the kids to make their own creations. Will bring toppings, cones, strawberries, sauces, whip cream and sprinkles. Of course will bring throw away plastic tablecloths, bowls, spoons and wet ones for clean-up.
Isaac great job on the shirts and please let us know what we owe. Look forward to seeing you all next weekend!!
    Love, Markay

ok, i did a little editing on the grid based on markay’s comment. did not attempt to add a new grid for deb and bill (wasn’t sure how to do that), but did edit markay’s and garry’s list, and also ours. following is the recipe for “Wiferated Eggs” (please note, pronunciation is, “whiff-er-ated”…not “wife rated”) :-)

    WIFERATED* EGGS

whiff - er - ate 1. to oscillate, agitate, mingle, blend and merge selected ingredients in a defined space. HOMONYM: WFR-08

INGREDIENTS (for each person): Quart-size Glad Freezer Bag. 2 Large fresh eggs. 2 tablespoons of milk. Choice of diced vegetables (onions, tomatoes, green pepper, broccoli, etc.), diced meats (sausage, pepperoni, ham, beef, etc.), fish (diced shrimp, crab, smoked salmon), mushrooms (sliced), cheese (shredded cheddar, swiss). salt, pepper, spices to taste.

DIRECTIONS: Write name on a quart-size freezer bag and crack 2 extra large eggs into it. Add milk, then combine your choice of sliced/diced fresh vegetables, meats, mushrooms, fish, herbs and spices (do not add cheese at this time). Seal TIGHT, and shake vigorously, then place in pot of boiling water and move occasionally to keep eggs and ingredients mixed. remove bag from boiling water when eggs are cooked, sprinkle on grated cheese (if desired), and serve (or enjoy right out of the bag). Voila…WFR08ed Eggs!

  8. isaac Says:

I added a line for Deb - the table code is sorta cryptic.

Hey, way to go - we’re now the top result for “wiferated” at Google. I think it’s only because all the other results are some sort of spam - but that’s still pretty neato!

  9. prispig107 Says:

Yum!!! I will bring 2 large pots for boiling and some tongs. I got 5 cases of water, 1 case of small water bottles, 1 case of rootbeer, 1 case of cream soda and 6 boxes of different capri suns and then the coffee stuff with the cups, lids and straws. A big can of hot chocolate, and tea. Let me know if anyone needs platters, large bowls or anything else like that. Do you think the garden club has a big coffee urn for hot water for the tea and hot cocoa?

  10. wedin54 Says:

priss…WOW. thanks! cheri had just mentioned we’d have to round up a big pot, and i had thought earlier that tongs would be very helpful. sounds like you covered beverages 6 ways to brunch :-) we might pick up a few extra varieties just for fun, but we’ll focus mainly on the WFR08ed eggs and ingredients.

isaac…i had to google “wiferated” myself…funny stuff! i will update deb’s and bill’s items per markay’s comment above. based on the lineup so far, i think we’ve got a real feast on tap already! fun stuff.

  11. Pete Says:

WOW! I go fishing and stuff happens….I love it! Jean called this evening. I think she wanted to confirm with me that Ben and Jess are not coming and as sad as that is, I had to confirm the rumor. We have a spare room available at Katy’s, but will absorb it and enjoy it either way. I also heard that Will and Jacque will be going home Saturday night, so they don’t need their room, either. One thing that Jean said that bothered me was that the Garden Club was all “taken care of”. I told her we would be there Friday to pick up keys and pay for the two days, but she said that she had already done that (not the keys!). Does anyone else know about this? I thought WE were doing that and Jean was getting dinner on Saturday. Anyhow, I thought we could somehow overpower her and do our part. Should be easy with a sore shoulder and all. The good news and if you have talked with her lately you know this, but she is walking on clouds in anticipation of this event. We are doing something that we will never regret and am hoping that it will just expand from here. See ALL of you Saturday and some of you much sooner! Love, Pete

  12. prispig107 Says:

Pete…No I didn’t know that about the garden club but doesn’t surprise me. She overpowers both Deb and i when we go up to visit for the lunch bill. Lets put our heads together on what we could do to help her with something…like maybe something for her garden…with her poor shoulder maybe some help …not this weekend but maybe pay for some supplies and we girls could gather a work party this spring and pick a day to go up and do the heavy stuff. How about a nice thank you card with cash that we all can pitch in to or a gift certificate to one of the local hardware stores. We could give it to her Saturday night. And this weekend does mean the world to her…how lucky we are to have her.

  13. wedin54 Says:

pete…yeah, the deal was/is, we cover the garden club…that’s in the updated reunion post from last august. i assumed jean reserved it, and we’d pay for it when we picked up keys/signed contract (kinda like a rental car. anyhow, saturday dinner is already above and beyond on jean’s part, so if she’s pre-paid the garden club, we’ll insist on reimbursement…we can do that the “easy way” (priss’s idea)…or the “hard way” (as you pointed out, it shouldn’t take more than 3-4 of us to overpower her with that bum shoulder). :-)

one other thing i’d like to do is bench maintenance. in terms of a “reunion activity,” it would be fun and worthwhile. a group of us could take a little sandpaper, linseed oil, etc. and do a little restoration in no time at all. might be fun to include the kids in that…something they could remember and take pride in on future visits. we could do that early on saturday (say mid-afternoon), or later sunday afternoon (after the brunch). anyhow, it would be a nice way to leave la conner in a little better shape than when we arrived.

more soon. we’re sure getting close NOW! l,j/d/gp
