FINAL update…weTunes! (2/18)
UPDATE (2/18): we’ve been pretty successful with requests and now have 58 songs in the reunion mix. today is the final day for requests, so please send (or call in) your selections today! i’ll include a very rough list (not in order) of the selections in a comment to this post. it has not been checked against the downloads as yet, so may not be 100% accurate. jake will be assembling the final mix this week. if you have any issues with this list, please let us know asap. l, j&j
UPDATE (2/17): we now have 49 songs! got some new picks from the millers and newtons. am still hoping to hear from a few others. jake has a preliminary mix…sounding pretty good! we’ll probably close it out here tomorrow, so please get last minute submissions in asap…just comment on this post to submit your songs. more soon. have a great week…less than three weeks to go till WFR08! love, j/d/gp
UPDATE (2/15): jake will start compiling the CD this weekend (tomorrow). if you only have one selection, feel free to add up to 2 additional choices…we will fit as many as possible on the CD. now that we’ve looked into it, the process will be a whole lot easier if we can do it all in iTunes. that’s not to say we can’t go outside of that, but it sure would be a lot easier if we can use iTunes as the sole source for all of the selections. if possible, please ensure that your choice(s) are in the iTunes library. if not, we’ll look at importing from other sources, but that is going to add another layer (or three) to a process that is already fairly involved. more soon…l,j/d/gp
UPDATE: jake’s a little behind schedule on the CD (mainly owing to my computer crisis), but i think we’re back on track (mostly). if you emailed your selections or put them in a comment other than THIS post), please reenter them on this post…it will now be the master menu for the CD. also, if you have 2 or 3 favorites, please include them (in order of preference)…we will get as many as we possibly can on here, but want to make sure your top favorites go on first.
UPDATE: based on excellent response so far, we will likely need to limit selections for CD duplication to one pick per person. if you have made 2-3 selections, please designate your favorite among them for the CD. HOWEVER, jake can easily do 3 per person in iTunes, and have the entire line-up on his iPod (we can use an iPod player at the garden club).
also, “No Place Like Homer” (Hobo Jim) is available for the CD…since we’re on the one vote trail, my top vote will be “Rocky Mountain High”…jean called this morning and confirmed her first (at this point only) pick will be, “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
ORIGINAL POST…
would be fun to have some music at the garden club on saturday and sunday. we can can bring cd’s, but it also would be cool to do a “reunion mix” featuring a collection of 2-3 song favorites from everyone around the family. it would be a fun anthology, and easy to make copies, so it would also a nice keepsake from the reunion.
if there’s enough interest, jake can put that together here…should be able to pull most stuff on iTunes. it’d be good to get selections in by superbowl sunday…that’ll give jake plenty of time to assemble the mix. to keep it simple…any song (up to three), no rules, no restrictions.

GREAT idea! Debra and I will pick a couple three….it’ll be fun to compare with Jon and Lisa this weekend. That is great that Jake is willing to do that…it WILL be a nice memento. Will be fun to see who has duplicates in the choices. I’ll call MK if that will help. Love, Pete PS: Thanks for the call tonight!
January 24th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Good for you Jake, sounds like fun…i will talk to my family tonite and get some selections together.
January 24th, 2008 at 8:56 am
A tune-up for the reunion is a great idea. I like it! Narrowing down my choices is going to be difficult, though. I really like ALL the songs on the SOUND OF MUSIC soundtrack . . .
January 24th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
3 of my faves right now:
Alala by CSS - available on iTunes and at Amazon (Amazon says it’s “Explicit”…)
Lonesome Hearts by Pela (remixed by Cassettes Won’t Listen) - available at the KEXP blog
Shim Sham by Imperial Teen - maybe on iTunes but I know it’s on Amazon
January 24th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
pete…yeah, if you could get tunes from markay, that’d be great! also, if she could let ericka and kurt know, that would help a lot. and of course, all the kids are eligible, too…if the kids aren’t old enough to “vote” parents know which songs their kids like, eh? just in case ben and jess aren’t on the org right now, maybe you could mention it to them, too.
priss, jake will be especially interested in tim’s and pete’s selections…can you get songs from deb, bill, willy and katie? if not, i can call them…no sweat.
also, any thoughts on getting word to danny and kelli? my only email for danny is the old “georgetown” address, but i don’t believe he’s connected with them anymore.
last, based on cheri’s “sound of music” dilemma, maybe she and isaac could write a NEW song for the reunion: “climb every logo” not sure we can get hobo jim to perform it…maybe charlie!
more soon. rock on! l, j/d/gp
January 24th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
isaac…took me two hours to get my comment out…yours appeared when i uploaded mine. so…i’ll pass your selections on to jake. he might need help with any non-iTune choices, but hopefully those won’t be a problem. as for “explicit”…a number of my iPod tunes are “explicit” also, but the lyrics themselves are pretty harmless…it usually refers to some obscure entendre or metaphor, and the connotation is a choice rather than in your face. with the little ones in the audience for this, i figure everyone will exercise a little discretion on their choices, but i DON’T think we need a lyric cop. l,j
January 24th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Bummer, I was hoping to be a lyric cop. Those Sound of Music songs are quite racy. Jon and I will think about it over the weekend. Nathan and Marina would love to here “My, My, Mister Anakin Guy”(American Pie) or “Yoda”(Lola) both by Weird Al “Sling me a web your the Spiderman”(Piano Man) is another kid fave around our house. Don’t worry we won’t let them pick. We will try to come up with our songs before Super Bowl weekend or we may end up with some sports themed choice like “We are the Champions” or “We will We Will Rock You”.
January 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Seeing what music choices are on other people’s ipod is a fascinating trip down voyeurism lane. The artists on my ipod range from amy winehouse for current trash, to ella fitzgerald for an historical balance, to asobi seksu for some Isaac finds, to the commodores for some soul replenishing dance music, to grace potter for some power soul.
I would like to see the following songs on the cd if there is room:
Ohh la la, Goldfrapp [first choice]
Brick House, The Commodores
Hurt, Johnny Cash or the Nine Inch Nails version
Jake, let me know if you cannot find these on amazon.com, as they are also available from the warm, fuzzy evil empire.
January 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
We are sitting around tonight considering music and am curious….does Jake want three from EACH of us? This could add up to a potential 150 songs. Not sure how you can duplicate all of those. Guess we’ll try to come up with a list in a priority fashion. Anyhow, I did tell Markay, Ericka, and Deb about this today, so am hoping to get some selections from them soon. This will be fun. Pete
January 26th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
This is Jon writing from Lisa’s logon. Top 3 of the moment are…
Shooting star by Bad Company
Somewhere Over the rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo…
Don’t wait too long by Madeleine Peyroux
Jon
January 27th, 2008 at 12:38 am
hey…those are some GREAT selections! i had a message from jean requesting a couple of bee gees tunes from the “saturday night fever” movies…we’ll confirm and finalize her picks tomorrow. anyhow, we plan to include “liner notes” with song titles (in order), plus artist, and nominee (please include your name, including kids names, with song title and artist if possible).
pete, you’re right…if everyone has three selections, 150 songs would be a bit much. i suggested one to three figuring we might not get selections from everyone, and only one from some. so…let’s see what we end up with. if we end up with too many, we might have to pare it down to each person’s top two favorites. but…we’ll try to get ‘em all in.
and…thanks for the song picks with links (especially to iTunes)…that helps!
we’ll try to publish a list on the org before producing the cd’s. l,j
January 27th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Hey Jake:
This is gonna be a project, eh? I am sure Debra will come up with some of her own favorites, but I would like 1) “Country Roads” by John Denver (Lisa says it is about going to a reunion!, 2) “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer” by Nat King Cole, 3) “Off into the Wild Blue Yonder” U.S. Air Force Song Band (ask Jonathan if you can’t find it). Thanks…it’ll be a fun memory. Pete PS: Markay, Deb, and Ericka will maybe call me with their picks.
January 27th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
PETE…excellent! i was torn on “rocky mtn high” and “country roads”…really glad to see “roads” make it in here. i assume you saw the update on this post (#1 pick automatically goes to cd…2nd and 3rd choices will likely be iTunes selections that may not make it on the CD). as for other call-in picks, make sure they give you top picks, then 2nd and 3rd choices. THANKS! l,j
January 27th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Hey Jack:
Okay, I get it….there is an “update”. We really need to figure a way to announce that, as I didn’t see it. Fair enough….I thought it was gonna be hard to fit all of those tunes on a cd. Will it be in the mp3 format? It amazed me how many you can cram on there doing that. See ya. Pete

mandi…THANKS! love, jake (and his assistant producer).
January 28th, 2008 at 7:47 am
Here are my 3 again as convenient iTMS links too:
CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy - Alala
Pela - Anytown Graffiti - Lost to the Lonesome
Imperial Teen - The Hair the TV the Baby and the Band - Shim Sham
The Pela remix is better, but I only see the original at the iTMS. If Alala is too dirty for the CD, then Shim Sham is probably my first choice.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Jake see me for the cd version of shooting star, the version I like isn’t available from itunes or amazon. Jon
January 29th, 2008 at 8:14 am
Here’s the one I’d like: Fields Of Gold, Eva Cassidy. I’ll have two more if we get to use them.
Cheers, C

February 11th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
pete…THANKS for the reminder on the newton tunes. i’m past the worst of the computer crisis, but still no word on the laptop hard drive (and whether any of that can be salvaged). ugh. hey, that salmon was INCREDIBLE!!! thanks for sharing. as you may know, troll caught is now in the copper river king zone…those guys finally got smart and realized they had the fresh salmon market cornered in the winter. i sure enjoyed a few years of 7.99 fresh troll caught kings, but those days are gone forever. cheri made a seafood gumbo yesterday…it’s REALLY GOOD! which reminds me…time for lunch! more soon…j

I haven’t gotten any good feedback from the family here for our song choice…so like when they were little and we were at the drive thru window and they were taking too long they get HiC to drink….anyway didn’t see “King of the Road” anywhere…not sure who its by but certainly remember it alot from Tokeland summers. The lyrics start out “Trailers for sale or rent…rooms to rent for fifty cents….(sound familiar?)
February 14th, 2008 at 7:45 am

Cool. I see King of the Road and Country Roads in there twice. Thanks to Sellie, the twins get their favorite on the cd…Twinkle, Twinkle. I am so happy to see many of my all-time favorite tunes on there! Thanks for the Homer plug, Jake. Love, Pete
February 19th, 2008 at 8:47 am
pete…yeah, the list is rough at this point, but THANKS for pointing out the duplications. once jake gets the final mix/order nailed down, he will create a list directly from the iTunes “WFR08 Playlist” and that will form the liner notes for the CD. btw, the “twinkle, twinkle” is a pretty cool version…also, we found a vocal version of the air force song…it’s also good. AND…we ditched the mormon tabernacle choir version of “bibbidi-bobbidi” for one that is a lot more fun. it’s coming along! l, j/j
February 19th, 2008 at 9:01 am
If there are any rough drafts on cd by Friday, I would be glad to give it a “test drive” next Friday. Sixty songs would probably get me to Soldotna! Have a good week….Pete
February 19th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Just wanted to leave a comment with my blackberry. Pretty cool to have the internet in the palm of your hand. Jake just a samll note there is no h in my name lol. Jon
February 19th, 2008 at 9:57 am
jon…congrats on the blackberry! i’ve been enjoying the iPhone a lot…there are significant differences between the two technologies, but a lot of similarities, too. my favorite part is the sync with my desktop and laptop computers…whenever i plug the phone into either, it automatically updates both phone and computer with latest adds and edits to key programs (like “contacts”).
one of your songs (don’t remember which one now…it may be “shooting star”) is not the version you preferred. hope that’s ok. we’ve tried to pick the best versions available at iTunes and/or our cd library. and, we have been able to upgrade a few tunes by doing some digging. anyhow, one of your preferred versions wasn’t available…we went with the best one we could find. yada. l, j
February 23rd, 2008 at 9:53 am
When did my name change to Brown????
Hope all are well and looking forward to seeing all!!!
February 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 am
markay…now that i know typos are the way to get you onto the org, i’ll have to make more (which i can do without even trying)
i updated the list (and fixed your name)…jake will be finalizing the mix today and we should be done. see you at the garden club two weeks from today! l, j
