UPDATE (01.04.08, 11.45a EST)
Based upon feedback, the deadline for submitting the final logo options will be Sunday, January 13, 2008, at 12p PST (11a AST/3p EST). The voting can start then and will need to be finished by Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at 12p PST (11a AST/3p EST).
I am not a fan of open voting on the org, so I will offer people both options. If you want to vote for everyone to see, you are welcome to vote on the org OR if you would like to email me (mwedin@wedin.org) your vote, that works. I will tally the votes and post the results on the org.
So, to recap the deadlines.

Posted 01.02.08:
The logos look great. I really like the red bridge brush strokes that Isaac posted (yes, I am biased) and it does look awesome!
I have not been posting lately, but Isaac has enjoyed an earful from me about the cool logo ideas floating out there.
In order to make our printing deadline, I think that we should set a deadline for choosing a logo to print on t-shirts. How does Friday, January 11, 2008, at noon PST (11a AST/3p EST) work?
We will vote that day by email after the noon deadline. You can email me at mwedin@wedin.org with your top two choices for logo and placement.
My vote as of today would be for the red bridge in brush strokes with Wedin 2008 in smaller font oriented to the left under the bridge. I would use a white t-shirt and place the logo on the front, upper right of the t-shirt. [I do not like con(ference) t-shirts with large amounts of logos and texts (sponsors) on them.]
If we are lucky enough to have multiple options or late submissions, we can convert those designs into file formats that can be uploaded to cafepress.com to make additional versions of WFR08 t-shirts.

mandi…just wanted to comment quickly on two things: first, i think we ought to vote on the org rather than email votes to one person (we can figure out a proxy for non org/email reunion attendees). voting on the org would be more fun and open…also, votes could be cast on a new post with final designs/ideas clearly listed/shown and numbered. second, i’d vote for january 12th (sunday) as the voting deadline instead of friday noon during the work/school week. more later on your post…l,j
I agree about Sunday being best, but my ADORABLE little laptop thinks it’s the 13th.
Cheri and I have been putting draft logos into the “Reunion” photo category – hopefully others interested in making draft logos will do the same. You can browse the current offerings in the photo album.
I vote for some color other than black or white for the shirts… I think we can have different colors, but for logo compatibility we probably need to choose either a light shade or a dark shade.
Hey Mandi:
Things are starting to happen….cool! I just saw a header on the org that was so-o-o cool. It HAD the bridge (which I think has become a theme) and some smiling faces. Very cool picture. I had never seen it until tonight. We scored a huge filet of feeder king salmon from a friends freezer today and the plan is to thaw it, cut it, brine it, smoke it, can it, and ship it to YOU! Maybe it’ll make it for your birthday, but it will make it. In the meantime, THANK YOU ALL for your graphic efforts…..this will be really cool. Love, Pete
Hi, Isaac – I see you placed a PhotoShop file with transparent background of your bridge on the org. I’d like to place it into some of the designs in the samples, but I don’t have PhotoShop and can’t use that format. I’m just working in PowerPoint (lame, I know, but for the last 15 years my job has been an 80/20 job–where I’m not supposed to DO the work, just DIRECT the work; consequently, I’ve never trained on the program). Anyway, I also do not even have MS Photo Editor here at home, where I could at least make a jpg background transparent. I can insert jpgs, tifs, eps files. Can you make any of those with a transparent background? Cheri
What is our printing deadline?
Cheri – I added a few more formats to the logo-a-go-go post. I’d say try the tif first and resort to the jpgs if nothing else works. I can make an eps but my program claims it won’t be transparent. If you’re using Windows, you might give the Gimp a try as a Photoshop alternative. It’s not perfect, but it does a lot of the same things.
Lisa – Printing doesn’t take long (a week or two), but I’d like to get it started at the beginning of February to avoid last-minute madness. I suppose when dealing with Wedins I should say it’ll take the whole month of February…
isaac…can we get those shipped to us from the printer before march 4th (we’ll pay shipping)? i for one would like to wash mine a time or two before i wear it
since the shirt-front logo designs are moving right along, i wanted to check on the postcard logo idea for the back of of tee shirts. the reason i want to check on that is two-fold: first, it’s going to be some work to put it together…second, if we’re going to do it, it would be nice to get contributions from as many family members as possible. the whole point of doing that particular treatment was just that…to create a collage that included a little something from everyone, if possible. i can find pics of most everyone to include, but it would be fun to have graphics, and a little history, too (like pete’s idea to include one of dad’s camp carson drawings)…a partial masthead from the Fishermen’s News…a cropped passage from one of the old christmas cards…the mag 7 ocean handhold pic…a rocky trip group shot…that kinda stuff. SO…i think interest in that idea has been fairly positive, but want to make sure it’s something a majority want to do before moving forward on it. also, i think we ought to make the graphic letters “W-E-D-I-N”…more than that would probably be too much. more soon. l,j
No problem shipping them to you. Worst case, we could wash the shirts here a couple of times before we fly out. Of course, then they’d have extra insulation courtesy of Oscar and Penelope.
I attempted a rough draft of the postcard shirt-back design. Just a start, but if you want to provide 5+ images for the letters I can drop those in.
Great! We’re now on track for getting votes in by the newly updated deadline. John and I have a suggestion for voting: How about if each person submits their top three choices in order, and then we weight the votes. Each first choice will be weighted with 3 points, each second choice weighted with 2 points, and each third place choice weighted with 1 point. The one with the greatest point tally will be the final. That gives everyone a greater chance of having one they prefer as a final. Does that seem to work, or is there a better idea?
mandi…for what it’s worth, i’m not a fan of “closed” voting in emails, but if some folks aren’t comfortable sharing their preferences on the org, so be it. the development process has been open, and it’s really been constructive (and kinda fun) to share, incorporate and watch the evolution of designs via suggestions, new ideas, and preferences as those have been shared. i guess i see voting on the org as an extension – a final step – in the process of collaboration, but no reason we can’t do it both ways. we also need to contact as many non-org folks (and non emailers, for that matter) as possible. l,j
