Open concept…
Found some images this morning on the vintage postcard idea. One thing about this concept that has appeal…it can incorporate elements from just about everyone. Depending on the verbiage, there could be 5-14 (more or less) separate image opportunities included in the various letters. Also, the backdrop could features a montage of visuals, though a La Conner image with the bridge would be pretty cool.
Thoughts?

Hey Jack:
I LIKE the bridge idea. There is a good photo (or painting) of the bridge (Rainbow Bridge?) somewhere in our stuff here. It could be symbolic of the bridge we will all cross getting to LaConner. I also like Mandi’s “W”. Are you suggesting a whole bunch of postage stamp-like images? That could be cool and it would be easy to incorporate everyone diverse ideas. Since I have not mentioned anything NEW here, I can’t tell you it has been butt-cold and with just a little wind, well below zero. Love, Pete

Oh I just thought of something else….I already commented on the logo post but I think a picture of the Tokeland Hotel would be cool in the background too!!! They have a website for a picture and I’m sure several of us have pictures from various eras also. Seems like a lot of our childhood was spent there, I have very fond memories of that place.

pete/priss: the postcard idea is cheri’s, so i’m putting my spin on that. i did include a stamp in that image lineup, but the postcards are the best examples of Cheri’s concept (the “Hello from BUFFALO” is the best example). one of the things i liked about this idea…the ability to incorporate a lot of visual touchstones into the design so everyone could contribute…the Tokeland Hotel is a GREAT image…photos, artwork, even text inside the large block letters would work. once we decide on the words, each family could “draw” a letter and then design/draw/photograph the inside of their letter. maybe use color on the outside of the letters (and the main backdrop) and keep the inside images in the letters black and white. just a thought. lots of great backdrop suggestions out there…i still like the idea of the la conner bridge as a framework for the words…the main words could actually appear inside the bridge. if jean could do simple brushstrokes for that, it would be great…do you have that “rainbow bridge” image you mentioned, pete. i found a few photos and a painting on-line…it’s a pretty cool image and and a decent metaphor, too. dinnertime…we just returned from the annual burpee-wedin ornament party. it was big fun! about 40+ people there…yikes. saw ben, jess and the girls, too…the girls were the life of the party…really outgoing in such a throng. l,j

I like the idea. The Fisherman’s Memeorial in Homer would be another cool addition.

lisa…that’s excellent…i have a photo of that plaque somewhere in my archives…pete and debra probably have a better one. the bench in la conner would be good, too…i have a current shot of that plaque (from our trip last summer). if we end up pursuing this postcard concept, we’ll have to decide on which images go inside the letters themselves and which ones appear in the backdrop. the backdrop images could be structures from our family’s past (like the Tokeland Hotel, 12549, etc.) and the images inside the letters could be individual family pictures and graphics…the bridge could be the “umbrella” over the the top. also, if this concept moves forward for a tee shirt, it IS a tee shirt, after all. so…the the best images will be simple and easy-to-read. i have several photo image tee shirts…they are remarkably detailed, BUT…the photos are fairly good size. yada-yada. time to get ready for the cold weather survival field trip. yikes. we definitely have the weather for it this morning! l,d

We’ll inquire of our shirt-printer friend about photo-detailed shirts. cafepress has example shirts that appear to be highly detailed, so if nothing else we can get shirts for about $15 each from there. The cool thing about cafepress is that we would also be able to slap the design on other things, like mugs and hats.

isaac…sounds good. i have several photo-tees and the detail is not only good, the images have also held up pretty well after repeated washings. if we end up going with the post-card concept, the outlines of the letters themselves will definitely hold up and remain legible even if some of the images fade in time. meanwhile, if your friend is not comfortable doing photo-impressions, cheri’s cousin does this same thing, and the bank also works with several companies who do logo-gear and premiums. but…from the samples i looked at, i’d say your friend can handle this, no problem. have you checked on timeline for delivery? we’ll want to make sure these can be shipped out by march 1st (at the latest), so we should find out the deadline for getting final artwork to him. also, talked to your dad yesterday…we’re going to try to get ahold of non-orgers to make sure everyone’s on board with what we’re doing here. more soon. l,j

Hello:
‘ On the non-orger trail….I called Deb last night to get some details of date bar chemistry and so she, Jacque, and Willy Jr. are apprised of the logo situation. I asked them to check out what is happening on the org, so maybe they will comment soon. I will get a call into MK and Garry in the next couple of days and ask them to talk to Ericka, who could in turn, call Danny and Kelli. Got their card yesterday and those girls are absolute dolls! Gee, we better get some cards! When the boat is in the shop, it is hard to concentrate on the holiday. We ARE making cookies, though. Love, Pete

Just to clarify, our friend’s business is not cafepress - that’s just an alternative I know about that has quick turnaround and prints on many objects besides t-shirts. For some reason I’m fascinated with the idea of a Wedin mug…
I have a query in to our friend about the approximate cost of a design like you’ve described from him. I also asked about a single color design for comparison.
I did some clicking at cafepress and can verify that for $14 it’s possible to get any old photo printed on one side of a white hanes beefy tee, or $17 for both sides. This review of the printing quality is somewhat enlightening.

isaac…i’ll second the motion for mugs, so let’s make sure those are on the agenda. i bought a bunch of old tug-boat mugs back in ‘79 and we hand-painted them for a reunion that never qhite happened…the mugs said, “Wedin Daze”…an apropos moniker for that era that brother Dan came up with.
that review REALLY brings things into focus on the tees…the direct method is obviously the way to go, eh? very nice quality. btw, i talked to deb after pete spoke with her…sounds like she’s cool with whatever we come up with on the logo. hopefully everyone’s in the loop now on the logo initiative…we probably want to finalize ideas soon and decide on one…most anything we do is going to take time to develop. btw, it IS the shortest day of the year here…the GOOD NEWS…the days start getting a little longer as they pass. more soon. l, j/d/gp

Our screen printer friend says we can get something like the postcard idea (I sent him one of them) on one side of a shirt and some single-color text on the other side for $8 to $10, depending on the shirt quality. This is for around 50 shirts in various sizes. He said the postcard thing was 5 or 6 colors, and removing colors would save about 75 cents per color. So, that would be quite a bit less expensive than CafePress, provided we can agree on a design and get it drawn.

isaac…hey, that’s GREAT! excellent price (REALLY excellent). with just a tick over 2 months till the reunion, we need to get rolling asap. i shared this scoop with cheri…she wondered about the process. so…first, we need to decide if the postcard idea is a “go”…if it is, cheri has some questions about the process (which you can share with your friend). also, if we do the postcard thing, we still need that one-color icon/logo for the front of the shirt. for simplicity, i like the bridge swoop with “wedin reunion ‘08″ under it, but there have been a LOT of great ideas, so maybe we can get all those together and take a vote.
so…lots of work to do, but we need to ratify a design/logo so we can get to it. i can sift through all the org comments and posts for logo ideas and get those listed in one post (that can also be mailed or shared via phone with non-orgers).
more soon. thanks for keeping the momentum going on this! seems like the last few months went by in a blink and here we are…two months away. l,j

I have a prototype of the bridge swoop that I’ll share when we’re back home. The postcard letters may be outside my meager artistic abilities, but I can make an attempt at that too. If there’s someone out there in the aether who feels more confident about executing these designs, please speak up!
I should mention that Mandi prefers a shirt with *just* the simple logo design on the front of the shirt. If enough people prefer that…it is quite a bit cheaper. It’s also possible we can do a combination of the 2 shirt types.

isaac…excellent! cheri did some roughs of the simple bridge design, too (including typography), and i thought i heard that charles could/would do some bridge-art, too. cheri’s bridges at this point are computer-generated …i think the best way to do that would with actual brush-strokes, and then scan them.
meanwhile, as you hinted, mandi’s preference is easy to accommodate…we simply do both styles…with and without the “back art.” the cost you shared for the full treatment (6 color back/B&W front) was very reasonable. folks can choose with or without the back art, and we can simply have them print both ways (and still get the 50 quantity break). as for cost, keep us posted on that. and, let’s go with high quality tees (”Beefy” for example).
i’ll try to get that consolidated listing of ideas put together today…the boys are roping me into a lpcfl (lake park circle football league) game, but i my left knee will likely make that endeavor a short one. am double-dosing glucosamine, but it hasn’t quite done the trick yet. ha.
more soon. thanks again isaac for sustaining momentum on this. any thoughts or leads on coffee mugs? if not, cheri has some good contacts (via the bank) for that. HAPPY NEW YEAR! l,j
