Goodbye Precious Gem

We had to say goodbye to Precious Thursday. It was a difficult decision - she had a nice trip to Eagle River last weekend and Jessica was able to say goodbye.

She touched many lives while she was with us, and we have some very fond memories in the 3 years she tolerated us…..Goodbye Precious Gem!Precious GemPreshyPrecious3

    debra…really sorry to hear about precious. i thought she looked pretty good when we saw her in ER, but cheri explained on the way home that she was in tough shape and the prognosis was not good. this past year, i was surprised to discover how affectionate she was…it just took me a while to learn when and how to approach her. once i got to know her a little better, her unique personality was endearing. we’ll miss her on our trips to homer! i’m going to add a pic here from our ER trip. l,j

    I am sad to hear about Precious. Here is a special swan song in her honor:

    P R E C I O U S ~ T I M E

    A songbird on the deck today
    notes Precious does not look his way,
    She doesn’t even flick her tail when chance he lights upon the rail;
    no silent stalk, no eager gleam, no twitching tail or so it seems.
    No cat to hold fixed in her sight
    his darting, dashing daily flight.

    Where can she be he sings aloud?
    His trilling draws a little crowd,
    a chickadee, a chipping sparrow come perch upon the rail so narrow;
    but through the window does not show the cat the birds have come to know.
    Her sunny perch is empty now,
    no shining fur and no meow.

    Their little heads bow down together,
    her fine, fine friends all of a feather.
    To give the cat a cheerful thought of sunny windows filled with pots
    of tasty catnip, greenest grass and lots of birds seen through the glass!
    They know it’s warm and restful where
    she lays her paws, without a care.

    And now the deck is filled with birds
    Singing songs that need no words
    About a cat who filled our days (without a lot of winning ways)
    With famous hiss and warning bite, she drew us close then said … goodnight.
    The precious gem she always was,
    precious is as Precious does.

    The poem touched me….thank you. I know Debra appreciates all of your thoughts. It’s an emptier house without her. See you all soon, I hope. Pete

  6. Debra Says:

    Hi Lisa,
    I got your message - tried to call you on your cell phone. Thank you for the kind thoughts, we buried Precious yesterday. Hope you had a nice trip to Fairbanks - you are adventuresome - we got an organic turkey yesterday for your upcoming visit - it’s about 11 pounds. Pete is planning on a turkey and something else like seafood.
    Love Debra
