Denali

I made it to the Denali Princess. It is my first business trip. It is beautiful here. The fall color is at it’s peak. I will try and add some pictures to this post when I get home. I took a lovely one of a moose hoof in a storm drain. It must be moose season in Alaska. Jon took time off work to stay home with the kids while I am away. They are planning a big ham dinner tomorrow. I am hoping it is all gone by the time I get back. I hope everyone is enjoying fall. Take Care. Love, Lisa

Hey Lisa:
What biz do you have at Princess? GOOD for you, no matter what it is! We did not get chosen on the lottery this year, but will try again next year. The twinkie will do a
Denali trip eventually. The toilet is 100%, the furnace, too, now the water system (just in time to winterize) and some cabinet doors and we are on the road! Look for us soon. Still fishing fairly regular. Good to see your post….Love, Uncle Pete PS: Jon, you are the BEST!

You saw a moose hoof in a storm drain? Neat. I’ll bet the Denali Princess would love to get a photo of that for their next brochure.
What a great time to go up there, I’ll bet the colors are beautiful. I’m still hanging on to summer memories here in Anchorage. But just this morning the temperature is about 4-degrees lower than it’s been at this time the last several weeks. Between the rain and the cooling temperatures, the leaves will begin changing quickly. It’s nice that Jon could work it out so you could make the trip. Have fun and be careful! I’ll watch for photos on the org.

I am at Pacific Northwest Water Quality meeting. We are hosting it. It should be fun. The meetings are normally in Seattle but every couple years they have one up in Alaska. They decided on Denali this year. We are sure lucking out on the weather. I had to pick Jon up from work on Friday and drove through Denali. The colors were not quite there but they are fabulous now. We can’t wait to see the twinkie heading this way. We have a convienent outlet on the driveway side of our house. Maybe I will include the moose hoof photo in my photo selection. I forgot the cord to attach the camera to the computer. I had better get ready for the meeting.

Hi Lisa! You mean the Xplorer don’t you? As soon as Pete gets everything done we will make a trip down to the Spit and park. Glad you are having nice weather up there. Our weather is as usual turning on us, it’s that time of year! We have been getting fogged.
Take care and see you all real soon!

hey lisa…wow…seems like yesterday that your trip was several months off! where DID this summer go? i guess we were all on the go and the summer went with us. denali is really beautiful this time of year…sounds like you hit it perfectly, colors AND weather. we really enjoyed our trip there last year, but it rained almost that entire weekend…it was still good fun. did your group take the train, too? that’s a fun bonus, but spendy for a group like that. i’m working with allyson this week on some new stuff for them…i’ll cut and paste a little from your post in an email to her. she was hoping that your trip would go well. more soon.
also, i saw jess and the girls at the store yesterday. been awhile since i’d seen them…they are REALLY cute! they were both clutching elmo videos like there was no tomorrow. fun stuff.

lisa…almost forgot…if you have time (and appetite), the best pizza i’ve had in my life is there at the denali princess. you’ll find it at lynx creek pizza…a small restaurant tucked away at the far north end of the lodge (on the right as you go down the hill from the front of the lodge). cheri and i split a mushroom/artichoke heart pizza (called mushrooms of the forest or something)…it was pretty incredible! i found out later from charlie (he knows the owners) that they imported their ovens special from back east…took months to get them. anyhow, it’s a casual place, nothing fancy and no reservations…you’ll see a lot of locals in there. but the pizza…it’ll make you think about moving up there. well, almost. love, dad

Hope you are having a great time, Lisa. Sounds like a fun get-away. We hope to see you guys soon. The girls sure like to talk about Nathan and Marina, and it’s not like they don’t see other kids either. I think they just really like and remeber those two.
It was good to see you at the store, Jack. We ended up buying only one Elmo video…”Potty Time With Elmo”. I thought it might be educational
Hope all is well. We hope to see you, Pete and Debra up this way soon.
Love, Jess

jessica…wow! you got five people into that comment (not counting M&M and elmo)…pretty amazing. of the two elmo videos, looks like you made the right choice there. kinda reminds me of a book cheri got for jake when he was that age: “Everybody Poops!” what a crack up. sorry. l,j

Hey Lisa and all:
Good to see a comment string get into the high-singles. Jack, you mean the pizza at Denali is better than Chef Tony’s? WOW, gotta go! Good to see Jess on the org….am very anxious to see the girls and all of you. We are formulating a plan to get us up the highway, but last-minute freezer fillers are keeping us busy for now. The weather is starting to bite us, though. Today was a tough one, but one party bought seven hats and the other is taking us to dinner! No halibut, but got twelve sharks….went up the Bay and avoided the inevitable “beating”, so guess they appreciated that. I am bummed, of course. Had a great day yesterday, though, and if you read the sign in the boat, well….have a great week, you all and am hoping to see you sometime this month,. We are booked for the weekend, though. Love, Pete

We are headed to Lynx Pizza tonight for dinner. The meeting is going well. The staff are all very helpful. Jessica we would love to see you all again soon. It was fun when you and the girls came by last time. The kids love playing with Madeline and Makenna. When we broke down in Eagle River they wanted to stop by but we were already late for the fair. All our vehicles are running again, maybe we can venture out to Eagle River. I would love to make it down to Homer soon. We have had some busy weekends that don’t appear to be getting less busy anytime soon.

pete…been awhile since we hit double-digits, but when you mentioned “high singles” i had to check. ha. anyhow, chef tony’s will always have a special place in my memory and has always been the benchmark no other pizza could match. until this lynx creek stuff. for what it’s worth, this stuff if different. it IS pizza, but it’s different - in a very wonderful way - than any pizza i’ve ever had before. compared to chef ton’s mushroom pizza, i’ve had a few “close but no cigar” slices here and there over the years (and they always remind me of chef tony’s). the lynx creek stuff did NOT remind me of chef tony’s…partly because it’s different, and partly because - yes - it’s better.
sounds like fishing is up and down these days, but hey…you’re FISHING, after all. have heard a lot of guys lamenting the season’s end lately…especially guys who got burned on the poor silver return up north here. look forward to seeing you soon. we’re probably tied up with football till mid-october, but maybe we can make it down before november. look forward to seeing you here if you head up this way. l,j
