Two Eagles

Sam just played his second game, and Jake plays his first game Friday…

Both of their teams are named, “Eagles.” Sam had a great game yesterday…at tight end, he made a bunch of key blocks and also made the only pass reception of the game (a 4th down pass that was just inches shy of a first)…at middle linebacker, he tackled a running back for an eight yard loss and also had a fumble recovery. fun stuff. They won 24-0 and now have 3 wins, no losses. Jake has to have ten practices before playing in a game (he missed quite a few because of our trip), but will be playing in his first game for West JV on Friday (against Dimond). We’re very proud of both the boys…practices have been 5 days a week, and Jake’s have been 5 hours long…tough stuff on some of these hot days we’ve had lately. I am uploading some short mpeg movies from Sam’s game…I’ll get some at Jake’s game Friday and upload those, too (www.eye-cue.com/john). More soon. Go Eagles! l, d/j

p.s. for ben: the varsity coach at West (Bob Garman) used to play with Drew Bledsoe at Washington State. Bob went to the Arizona Cardinals and Drew, of course, went to the Patriots. Anyhow, Bob is the coach who brought Drew Bledsoe up here for that football camp out in MatSu that Ben went to when he played for Skyview. I mentioned to Bob how impressed Ben was with Drew at that camp. Bob thought that was pretty cool. l,j

Great post, Jack, and yeah, following the kid’s sports is wa-a-y fun! I’ll check out the videos later. Debra and I are headed out to clean the boat, then to Cap’n Patties for dinner. The kids just left….we went out about abeam of the Lighthouse Village and got three silvers and lost at least five and got two halibut to boot! Jessica drove, Ben ran the gear, and grandma and grandpa ran after the girls….well, Makenna slept through most of the action. There were humpbacks aplenty and we had a ball. A totally awesome day off. Well, have called a bunch of folks looking for help tomorrow, but none have surfaced. Guess I’ll get it dun myself and then go to “Buttwackers” when I get in. God, I’ll miss that kid! Take care. Pete

    Hey Guys:
Funny follow-up….especially if Ben reads this. Just got off the phone with Tony Umloff….a kid Ben went to school with and I coached in hockey. Heard I needed help and is going to try it out tomorrow. He is married to Frank Mullen’s daughter, Amy. and just moved to Homer. Should be fun, but may still need to go to Buttwackers! More to follow. Love, Pete

yeah…when you get down to it, alaska is really just a small town with an enormous backyard. that’s GREAT news on the deckhand situation…gotta be tough to find candidates right now with school starting and all. speaking of that, gonna be a busy week here getting geared up for school, but once it starts things will settle down quite a bit on the home front. also, they’ll cut back football practice for both boys, too…that’s been fairly intense the past few weeks, so it’ll be nice to throttle it back a bit. have a great week! l,j
