A Great Visit with Dick and Betty
We had an event packed week with
Dick and Betty. They sure got that white Christmas they were dreaming of. They were able to attend Marina’s Preschool Christmas Party with Jon and we have been hearing Marina sing Away in a Manger ever since. Sam Marina and Nathan made a gingerbread house with Betty.
We had a funfilled Christmas Eve party. Christmas morning was magical. We had dinner at Sourdough Mining Company and a shopping trip to Wildberry. We had dinner at Village Inn and breakfast at Gwennies.

Lisa: Nice post! It WAS really nice to see Dick and Betty. Thanks again for having us over for Christmas Eve…that was a fun party and the food scrumptious. That remodel made a huge difference there. Speaking of white Christmas, we are in the midst of a blizzard here and from what KTUU is reporting, you guys are getting some of that, too. Love, Pete

Hello Lisa,
Thanks for having us for Christmas Eve, and we sure enjoyed seeing Dick and Betty, wish we could have stayed longer. I got Madeline’s cold, so am home sick today trying to get organized, my New Year’s resolution.
Have a great week, love to you all

lisa…yeah, those are fun pics…the one on turnagain looks windy, but i’m sure it was beatiful, too. great to see dick and betty here and on the org this holiday season, and we really enjoyed having everyone here for christmas dinner. we ARE having a touch of that blizzard here, pete…we got about 10″ of new snow overnight and it’s still coming down. i’m taking 6-7 boys to the aces game tonight, then a spend-the-night here…this snow will certainly make that a bit more of an adventure! tom’s (cheri’s dad’s) surgery was postponed till tomorrow…it was tough on him to delay, but it’s for the best in terms of the surgeon. cheri’s internet connections have been iffy, so updates have been tough. more soon. j

Sure is fun to look at those photos and remember our holiday celebrations! Quite a contrast to the drab, stark winter in here in Ohio. What a joyous time we had. Good food and good company.
Now I know why the football team is called the Cleveland “Browns.” ‘Cause that’s what you would get if you lived here all the time, the “browns.” Although it has been sunny the last two days which made a big difference in the outlook.
Dad will go in to surgery tomorrow between 6:30 and 7:00 Cleveland time. The surgeon said it’s a very big surgery, will probably take much of the day. He’s going to take his time and get it right. Once again the surgeon (probably the number one guy in the nation) said he was astounded at how lucky Dad was in Charleston. Apparently when the heart ruptures and they try to stitch it–it almost never holds. Dad’s first stitch didn’t hold but the Charleston surgeon tried a second one which miraculously did/has.
The current aneurysm is being held closed by scar tissue from Dad’s original bypass. It is “huge,” according to them, about the size of a softball (in the lower left back of heart). The mitral valve will be replaced. the scar tissue removed, and a patch placed over the hole left in the heart wall. The lesser part of the surgery will be to clear three blockages and pull a vein down out of his shoulder and/or get one from his leg.
We’re putting all our eggs in the surgeon’s basket. He gave Dad a chance to back out, said this was probably the worst time to try to do it–so soon after the last surgery. But Dad said to go ahead. Then, when he left, Dad said he was glad to meet him, and would see him again “if he made it.” The surgeon said, “You’ll make it.”
Sorry to take up so much of the org with the news, but thought it would fill everyone in. I appreciate all the good thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement. Much love to all, C

hey gillian…that’s an excellent explanation (most detailed yet), and i’m going to share it with the boys before the deluge of friends hits at 5 (actually, they can check it out on their own computers). it sounds like an extraordinary procedure, but you gotta like the surgeon’s attitude and approach…he sounds very realistic about the challenge, but also very confident and positive about the outcome.
it’s still snowing here, and now it’s blowing, too. we’re determined to go to the hockey game, but getting there may be as exciting as the game. ha. we’re going to fill our seats (and steve’s)…i ended up giving the bank tickets to mike. marissa is here, and he was tickled to get good seats.
gotta order pizza and shore up last minute preparations for the big spend-the-night. hope you (and tom!) get a good night’s sleep and that all goes well in the morning. i’ll check email and vee mail when we get back from the game…call my cell any time…i’m keeping it with me round-the-clock. l, wedin
