New York Times
hey…
seems a little weird to post since we’ll be seeing most everyone in a few hours for dinner, but what the heck? it’s my first time on the org since we got back from NY. we had a really great time, and though we missed everyone and being home, we were actually a little sad to see the trip come to an end. NY was remarkably cleaner, friendlier and safer than what i recall from my visit there in 1970. the film festival ended up being a minor footnote to the trip…visits to the empire state building, central park, battery park (for views of the statue of liberty), the world trade center site/memorial, subway/taxi rides, times square, lion king, grand central station, rockefeller center, the UN, brooklyn bridge, great restaurants, macys/saks, etc., etc. — those were the memorable highlights we enjoyed most. we were amazed how safe the streets were at night…we walked all over midtown late at night, and never felt uneasy at all. pretty amazing. so much history there…we walked right by the spot where george washington was sworn in as president…didn’t realize that until the following day. so…it was a fun baptism, but we’d love to go back one day and have a little more time to enjoy an incredible city.
despite a near 70 degree swing in temp, it’s really great to be back. we missed everyone, and we’re looking forward to the holidays. we got shootout tickets for this coming thursday (marshall plays cal at 8 pm), and also friday’s and saturday’s late sessions, including the championship game saturday night. if anyone’s interested in going, tickets are a lot tighter this year than last year. looking forward to seeing ben’s and jess’ new house…let us know when you’re ready for visitors!
see you all shortly for dinner! love, j/d/gp/gruncle

Good to see your post last night. We’d gone the weekend “unwired”, so had lot’s of stuff on the server. Sounds like a fun trip to NY and that’s good news that it had improved since your last visit. Was good to get together at Village Inn. Wow….17 family at one table. The weekend was successful, I think, but Ben and Jess do have some stuff to put away. The good news is we were able to move it around and get the Honda in the garage, at least. Isaac was a bunch of help, but moving and with the girls….they LOVE Uncle Isaac! Well, we’ll see you this weekend somtime. Love, Pete

pete…yeah, that was quite an assembly at VI! M&M were really good (except when i riled makenna up). the golden corral was a great idea, and we’ll have to get an update on how that is in terms of crowd/line. maybe it’s settled down a bit, or possibly some good times to go when the crowd is less intense. good to hear the weekend move went well…those guys should be comfortably settled by TG, eh? we’re doing shootout in the evenings on thurs/fri/sat. cheri has to work friday, but i’m hoping to take the day (or most of it) off.
we’d love to come out and see the new place, so let us know if there’s a good time this weekend. maybe saturday during the day?
meanwhile, i hope the holidays inspire a spike of ORGin donors. we had a few nibbles from down south, and it sure was fun to hear from those guys, even briefly. i think isaac has made it about as easy as a blog-type site can be…there’s definitely a learning curve to posting and commenting, but he’s made it a lot easier than it was a few years ago, eh?
also, he built a great site for the movie. everyone who’s been there raves about how great it looks, and marvels at how quickly he put it together. if you want to take a look, it’s at: http://www.alaskathelandbeyond.com also, if you check the “CREDITS” page, he included a link to captain pete’s…be great if you got a few hits off that.
back to it…short week, long list. it’s that time of year! l,j

I hadn’t checked it out in a while, but the stats pages can be semi-informative about who’s visiting. Some of the search string stats are pretty funny too - apparently one of the ways people end up at wedin.org is by searching for “sleeping with my brother”…and I have NO idea what “dog on skunk” is about.

wow. i went to the stat and string stats pages…pretty amazing stuff. i might go back and look at more details, but a quick scan of the data was very interesting. was astonished at the hits from outside the u.s., though the traffic from sweden seems almost likely given our name. as for “sleeping with my brother,” i suspect there’s a photo or reference to sam and jake - or maybe even you and ben from when you were kids - napping together. anyhow, i suspect that someone using that search is not all that thrilled when wedin.org appears. ha.
meanwhile, any thoughts on getting the new movie site hooked up with some search engines. right now, it doesn’t google even when you type in the whole title in a search. maybe it takes awhile these days to get in the queue. hope to see you guys this weekend…l,j
