Gotta Give it a Try!

30 September 2006

Hey Everyone:
Since I got elected to the board of directors of the Alaska Marine Conservation Council last year, I have been elated to be involved with something positive. We have been members since the Council’s inception….in 1995, the Wedin Family joined AMCC and have enjoyed being kept informed of the various attacks on the Marine Environment that the Council provides. As a Board member, I am expected to sell raffle tickets! We have a cash raffle every Fall….350 $100 tickets are sold and 16 prizes from $250-$10,000 are awarded. It is one of the major fundraisers of the year. Kinda cool thing is, if you buy a ticket, they sign you up for a year of membership ($35 value). So, if any of you are interested in being involved and informed on whats being attacked on our marine environment, I would encourage you to buy a ticket or just check out the website and JOIN, at least! http://akmarine.org is the site. Isaac, if you can tell me how to make the mac do a hot-link, that would be cool. Love, Pete

Mandi and Isaac’s European Adventure

27 September 2006

We’ve been back for a week, and I figure I’d better write something now, before my 30-something memory can’t remember where we went and what we did. I guess the trip really started sometime last year during a trip to Seattle, when our friends Geoffrey and Annemarie announced they were getting married…in Lyon, France. Of course, we said we’d love to attend. Then, our friends Silke and Markus announced they too would be getting married…in Geilenkirchen, Germany, just a week after Geoffrey and Annemarie. So, our basic plan was to start in Lyon and make our way to Geilenkirchen somehow.

Notre Dame and the Seine

We flew into Paris and spent a night there, mostly so we could visit L’Orangerie, a small museum that houses two huge Monet murals. It was closed for renovation the last time we were there, and just reopened a few months ago. We had to wait in line a while and the humanity was dense inside, but it was worth it. To fight off the jet lag we walked around a lot and drank several espressos. I think we crossed the Seine 4 or 6 times thanks to Mandi’s navigation.

A Trolley Good Birthday!

25 September 2006

BirthdayMomAllAboardBDgroup

Really great to see everyone yesterday at Cheri’s bithday celebration! It was the quirkiest birthday I’ve ever experienced, but certainly a great group of people and memorable for all who went along for the ride. True story! It’ll be hard to top next year, but we’ll think of SOMETHING. Ha. j/d/gp

Roadrunners…

21 September 2006

9 06 RoadrunnersSunsetLkHood

Great to gather at the Roadrunner last night! That might be the last creekside burger and shake of ‘06…glad it worked out. We took a run out to Woronzof befoe heading home to catch the sunset…it was beautiful (see Lake Hood photo above). Cheri’s birthday is on Sunday, and we’re planning to have a fun midafternoon gathering and early dinner…so we’ll do something and eat somewhere…that’s the plan! The weather might turn around by Sunday (according to Jackie last night)…if it does, we’ll plan something outdoors (bike ride to downtown, Kincaid Park, Botanical Gardens, or (your-idea-goes-here). If the weather is iffy or worse, we’ll have some fun back-up options and the birthday girl can take her pick. Anyhow, let us know if you can make all or part of what will be will be. :-) Alternate ideas and RSVP’s welcome in comments to this post. L, g/d/j

Whale of a weekend…

10 September 2006

It was raining sideways and blowing pretty hard Thursday night when we arrived in Homer. Didn’t bode well for a boat ride on Friday, but Captain Pete pointed out the next morning that the east end of the bay was fairly calm and partly sunny, so we headed out for

Labor Day Visit

7 September 2006

Hi,
I just wanted to share a couple of photos of our last visit from the Grandgirls and their parents. I have one more of me and them but it is somewhere else so will add it later. Hope you like them.Precious GemsThe girls are fascinated with Precious - and Grandpa reads a fish book to the girls:One Fish Two Fish
We had such a great time, wish Pete had been able to take a little more time off, but I even got to babysit for 3 hours (they slept the whole time!) and I got to take Makenna to Save U More. It was great.

Ben had to change a flat tire on the way, hope the trip home was more uneventful!
