I’m pretty sure pirates can’t spell, but I’ve heard they do make all-caps typists walk the plank. I too would like to hear about the new ibook/imac. I think I’ve had mine for around 5 years and it still works fine (I did do some repairing and upgrading though).

Like a ling cod from the murky depths of Resurrection baited by the hook of an Alaskan fisher, so, too, surfaces Isaac at the mere mention of an iMac set on the virtual table at Wedin.org ….

I’m thinking about getting a Mac myself. My Dell cracked open the other day, and I know if that happened to a Mac I might get help from my son.

ok…i think cheri wins the “comedy comment of the month” award…hard to top THAT metaphor. funny stuff. and debra…i just read this week about a new generation of macs that will run the latest version of system 10 (leopard) OR…windows XP. yup…these units give you the choice on startup to either run MAC or WINDOWS exclusively. pretty cool, and this is the breakthrough a lot of folks have been waiting for. probably want to wait till they work the bugs out (it’s still in testing)…i’m sure isaac can provide more details (and yes, i’m casting another iMac lure for the org’s elusive webmaster)…ha. hope the wedin-burpees are having fun in homer…nice day here, and we’re headed for the fnba employees picnic here in a bit. hope to see you guys tomorrow…keep us posted. j/d/gp

I guess you caught me again…

I think the dual booting thing is good for occasionally running some Windows program you can’t do without. You need to reboot to get out of OS X and into Windows, and vice versa, so it’s not a perfect solution.

Virtualization seems more interesting – where you run Windows in a window under OS X. No rebooting, and when Windows inevitably crashes OS X is still going. Parallels Desktop is the only one I’m aware of, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more appear, or if Apple included it in some future version of its OS.

isaac…yeah, i noted the reboot deal on the spec, but this seems like a pretty big step in the right direction. and…i’m still amazed at how quickly my iBook boots up compared to my old G3. imagine the next generation of macs will run both operating systems simultaneously, though it sure would be great if windows would simply go away.

that parallels desktop program looks pretty cool…i’ve seen virtual pc software, and didn’t realize you have to shut down OSX to run them. anyhow, i’m constantly amazed at technology, and it seems i never master any of it…even my old G3 has a lot of capabilities i’ve never explored, and i doubt if i’m using HALF the capabilies my cell phone offers (but i’m always lured by the new, latest-greatest nonetheless).

am looking at new iMacs, and i’m glad i waited. the prices seem comparable (even a little better) than the old units, and the new ones seem a lot more capable. any thoughts on those? j

  9. isaac says:

The new iMacs look great, but I’m not a fan of the all-in-one design. If you already have a display you like, a Mac Mini might be a better choice. Or get two of them (they’re bargain-priced) and hook one up to your TV and stereo.

isaac…just saw your reply…i didn’t check notification on this so i missed it. i’m not keen on my current monitor, and from a space/esthetic standpoint, i kinda like the iMac architecture…but, if the mac minis are comparable in performance and memory, i’d sure look at that. how do they compare head to head? j
