Holding down the fort

DSC05803 1DSC05804DSC05806

hey all…

we’re ALMOST back to normal now…cheri and the boys are unpacked from their big adventure, and the fort was duly christened this weekend with two sleepovers. still a few fort tweaks, but it’s wired, carpeted and pretty darn cozy and comfortable. should be fun for the sam, jake, nathan, marina and friends for the next few years…and, a nice break for us sometimes, too. cheri and i finally saw da vinci code…we both agreed that the book was MUCH better, but movie was good…the book was a tough act to follow.

had a nice day…the boys went canoing and fishing with jon and lisa, and we all enjoyed a steak-salmon barbecue (fresh king courtesy of david hubbard)…good stuff! more soon…hugs around and hope everyone has a great week. l, j/d/gp

The fort looks very cool. Luckieee! Our weekend went well….let’s see, we ate, fished, and slept. Pretty good people and good fishing right now. The weather has been agreeable. Today we may have some wind, but probably not enough for a blow-off….darnit. Glad to hear everyone is back home to cool temps. I had some folks from, Virginia and N. Carolina recently and all agreed that this weather is a good reprieve from their summer conditions. Hope to see you guys soon. Love, Pete

pete…yeah, the fort turned out pretty cool. it was a pretty spontaneous venture from the get-go, and we kinda made it up as we went along. i’d do quite a few things different in hindsight, but…it was a lot of fun, and should be fun for the boys and US, too. just installed a phone tonight…i pulled the plug on my fax about a month ago, so figured that line would work well out there. and it does…we needed a way to call them in without going out there all the time, and the phone also will be nice for other parents to check and see if their kids are over here.

sounds like fishhing is going really well. cool stuff. weather here has been pretty lackluster…not bad, really, but not the usual summer fare we’ve enjoyed the past few years. but yeah…the boys have commented on the comfort of the temps here since they’ve been back. they lucked out mostly on their trip…the hottest weather was in north carolina, but they had their own pool and the ocean to cool off.

cheri’s headed for betsy’s place in homer with her work group this coming weekend. nice break for her, and fun to spend some time with those guys away from the bank. we’ll try to plan a family trip down your way soon. when does pete leave? we’ll try to get down there before he heads out. any chance he’ll have a day or two on the trip back? imagine he’ll work right up to the quick, but the boys would sure enjoy seeing him a bit before he heads south.

more soon. hugs around and good hunting…l,j

    Hey Jack:
I’ll keep the stream going. Any chance Cheri would have dinner with us one night? I’d spring for a Cafe Cups or anywhere if so….maybe just an evening here at the bluff. Keep us posted. Pete is scheduled to depart on the 19th….we have been discussing the possibility of Peter Hopley getting here in time for Petger C to have a few days to spend with his Anch cousins. You know, he is NOT anxious to leave, but I think he will be happy to see a bit more of Alaska before heading home. I’ll not be surprised if he opts to come back….he’s a natural and is an asset to the operation. Still thinking it would be fun to have Jake come down for a spell. Let me know and we can make arrangements. I am thinkg of having Pete Hopley coming about the 15th….what do you think about a three day Peter C visit? See you soon and Cheri sooner (we hope) Love, Pete

Hope to see the Homer gang this weekend. I don’t think a dinner will be in the cards, but maybe a quick coffee and dessert or something on Saturday. My work gang is dining at the Homestead on Friday night, and Saturday we’re making dinner at Betsy’s. (It’s our birthday treat for her. Is the guy still selling crab over by the lighthouse?) I’ll definitely give you a call when I get there and we can work something out. The weather is supposed to be good so not sure you’ll get a blow off, Pete …

    Hey Cheri:
The wind is supposed to blow on Friday and Saturday, but supposed to be sunny. The rain won’t stop me, but a west wind will. We will take whatever time you have for a visit. The crab guy is there at times, so if you want us to pick up some, let us know how much and we’ll get it done for you. He charges $13.95 by the pound, but it is only $12.25/lb if you get a 23# case. I think it is $285 for a whole case. I could stash one for you if you want….it’s a lot of crab legs. We coluld lone you the steamer we use to heat it up. Hope to see you all soon….Pete would love to come visit for a day or two before he flies out on the 19th. He really wants to work as much as possible….he’s got the spirit! Love, Pete
