Native Heritage Center

30 June 2006

Hello Everyone:
Just saw a bit in the ADN that the Alaska Native Heritage Center’s new Aluitiq house is complete and ready for visitors. When Ben and Jess and girls and Debra and I visited recently, there were several displays on the outside loop that were closed. Itg would be a great time to visit the center, as this weekend, my friend, Peter Lind and his wife Darlene will be there in the artist’s area and he wilkl be working on the Aleut hunters visor that I have ordered and will be completed this Fall. I got a sneak preview this week when I made the down payment and I am EXCITED! He is such a gem and this will be a big event around here. If you can’t make it out there, I am planning a reception here for a “unveiling” in the Fall. Keep in mind that Lisa, Becca, and Ben can all get in for free, and the other Alaskan residents are $9.95 to visit the center. Look Peter and Darlene up and I kn ow you wilkl be pleased….they are very special people. Take care. Pete

Good news

30 June 2006

Yesterday, Isaac had his one year check up with his orthopaedic surgeon and he was given a thumbs up! The bone fragments have healed and fused together, so his clavicle is now one and so is his shoulder. The question of keeping the hardware or not will depend on how much discomfort and pain he will (continue to) experience. For now, that is a decision for another day and today, we are enjoying the one year successful outcome.

Have a great holiday weekend. -m.

King Crab

29 June 2006

Hi All:
If you are interested in King Crab, we have found a good source. Pete and I stopped in at a stand near Lighthouse Village and got four legs….WOW! we steamed up three (one for each of us) reserving one leg and the body meat for a crab-stuffed halibut dish. The legs are awesome! Large and well-glazed, so freezer burn. The price is about $13.00/lb if you buy a 23# box. I think the bos is $285. We got a captain’s deal on the four legs for $42.50. Still alot, but man, is it good! Pete and I will split a box and send half to Priss. And if any of you want some, let us know and we’ll send it up with Debra on Sunday. Sure wish I could make M+M’s party, but heck, gotta fish. I’ll see them soon, I hope. Hope yopu are all having a good week….we are hanging in there. Love, Pete

Haven’t orgd for awhile

21 June 2006

Hello,
We have been a little tied up with summer down here in Homer, so haven’t had a chance to do any posts. Well, you all know our favorite subjects are either fishing or:Girls in Car at Native MuseumWe went to the Heritage Center with Ben and Jessica and the girls when we were up in Anchorage. I read some books to the girls:Grandma with Girls and both of them wanted Grampa at once:Pete with his Girls
This was actually quite awhile ago, I picked up Peter C at the airport last week and he has been fishing with Pete daily. We are all looking forward to a blowoff day for our reasons, Pete would like to make a quick trip to Anchorage to see the girls of course, and Peter C would just like some rest. I would just like to sleep in til 7 a.m. for once.

We are also looking forward to our next Burpee visit, around July 1…..take care and talk to you later,
Debra

Happy Father’s Day!

18 June 2006

JakeEastFlags2JakeWestFlags2

Hope you all had a Happy Father’s day. We had an excellent day here…laid back, easy-going, low-key…a little baseball at the park with Jake and Sam, great dinner with Lisa, Jon, Nathan and Marina…and homemade cheesecake for dessert. As busy as it’s been, pretty hard to top a day like this.

Wish Dad was still around. He’d be 80 this year if my math is correct…I think he’d get quite a kick out of his kids and grandkids these days.
