ok, i decided to do a little research on this egg-standing thing (oh, the wonders of taking a little time off!), and among many other articles, i found the pics above and a few facts (see “rest of the story” for excerpts)…j

The Full Solstice Eggsperience!

21 December 2005

A few solstices ago, we decided to try the “stand the egg on its end” trick. I always thought that was a myth, but after much eggsperimentation, Cheri pulled it off awhile back, and now…it’s become a winter/summer solstice tradition here on Lake Park. And, for what it’s worth, we have not been able to duplicate our egg-standing success outside of the solstice. Fact? Myth? Delusion? Who knows? But here’s a pic taken at 9:35 this morning…j/d/gwinter eggs

Over the hump, into the light!

Wahoo! Today is Solstice, and in just a few minutes (9:35 a.m. to be exact), we turn the corner on the short days of winter and start leaning back toward those longer days of spring and summer. I won’t be putting the full-spectrum light away any time soon, BUT…sure nice to know tomorrow will be a little brighter than today. j/d/g

Christmas Orgaments…

18 December 2005

With Christmas just a week away, it was fun to gather at Jon’s and Lisa’s yesterday with three generations of Gillians-Wedins-Burpees. Pete and Debra hinted that they might make it back up this way later this week, so maybe we’ll be blessed with another mini-reunion. Fun to see Madeline and Makenna…can’t believe how much they’ve grown and matured since we last saw them… Pete and I visited the org after dinner (spaghetti, broiled salmon, smoked salmon, fresh oysters, aparagus, and more!), and we were pleasantly surprised to see a comment from Jean on Isaac’s Christmas Card post. It doesn’t take the place of a real visit, but it’s the next best thing! Also, last week we enjoyed (and saved) what had to be the best voice mail of they year…a fun and lively message from Jean, Deb, Markay and Priss. It was especially enjoyable after having visited everyone a month ago. I’m taking next week off, and Cheri is planning to take Wednesday through Monday off. Looking forward to a nice holiday break and catching up with friends and family. Jon called today about tubing at Alyeska…great idea, and next Monday looks like the best bet for all of us here (hope that works for everyone else). More soon…hope to see everyone on the org soon. Love, Jack/Dad/Grampa

Merry Christmas!

15 December 2005

2005 X MAS Card Cover Jean sent me this card a while ago and I’ve been a bit lazy in posting it. Hope this finds you all well. We’re having a little snow, ice, and rain storm around here. It’s been a little disappointing compared to the weather channel’s forecast - our rear-wheel-drive car’s been just fine so far.

We had a good quick trip to Seattle last weekend for Mandi’s company Christmas party. The highlight (for me at least) was dinner at Lark near Seattle Universtity. The culinary delight of the evening was a plate of gooseneck barnacles, which sounded strange and smelled a little funky but tasted great.

At Work

13 December 2005

Christmas TreeHey, nice silver dreadlocks! Since we’re sharing photos of Christmas, thought I would put this one up, we wanted to send the boss a photo to show we have the Christmas spirit at work.

Can’t wait to get a few decorations around the house too, especially Pete’s 7 foot tree that he thinks he has to have every year.
