Polar Expression…

hey, hey…

been awhile since we posted from lake park, but we have been keeping up on the “many faces of berkley,” homer fishing reports, fairbanks, etc. good stuff! meanwhile, can it REALLY be the middle of november already???

it’s been a busy fall here on most every front, but it was great fun to see anne and tom for a couple weeks, and the halloween weekend visit from lisa, jon, nathan and marina was terrific! we haven’t seen jon in awhile, so that was a bonus to visit with him here, too. really enjoyed carving pumpkins for all the kids, and the seeds turned out better than ever this year. halloween has never been my favorite holiday, but this year’s was a no trick and a lot of treat…one of the best ever!

on halloween day, we managed to make a trip out to snowgoose…we met jon out there who had driven down from clear…there was a good 6″ of snow out there and pretty breezy, but it looked great and was fun to tromp around on 20A with the kids.

for some reason the transition to winter this year has been tougher than usual. lotta reasons for that, but it does feel like we’ve turned a corner here recently and finally settling in to a good groove. we’re really looking forward to a traditional lake park thanksgiving - been awhile since we’ve done that - and we’re already feeling a little glimmer of christmas spirit. as for thanksgiving, we’ve got shootout tickets this year, so it’d be fun to take in a few games with whoever’s interested…be fun to take the boys (jake, sam, nathan)…and it’d be great if pete, isaac or ben were up for a game or two! let us know…tickets may be a little tight this year.

oh yeah…we HAVE made time recently for a few movies. there are some good ones out there right now! our reviews:

POLAR EXPRESS: *****(*) yeah, on a scale of 1-5, this movie’s a SIX! we loved everything about it. great script, beautiful setting (best ever use of computer animation), terrific character development, AND it’s a great film no matter what age you are. i’d easily notch it into my top five all-time favorite films. it’s THAT good.

THE INCREDIBLES: ***** this is an amazing movie, and probably my favorite pixar movie yet. mind you, we ended up in the second row of the theater (yikes). the characters are really wonderful, and the production is amazing in that the numerous subplots are potentially convoluted, but the continuity and flow never miss a beat. cheri and i cracked up at all the adults in the theater who laughed out loud continually…the movie wasn’t THAT funny overall, but the audience WAS.

SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW ***: so…the hero flies a P40 warhawk throughout the movie. kaching! jake and i were hooked! the incredible backdrops for this movie were all computer generated, and the look of it is pretty extraordinary. but…despite the all-star cast, the script is a bit thin and the performances, overall, are phoned in. so…it’s not for everyone, but sure made a helluva great afternoon escape for me and the boys.

gotta run…we’re off to costco this afternoon, and cheri’s been rattling outdoor light boxes in my direction, so i may spend a few hours on a ladder this weekend. ha! all the best and hugs around to everyone! l, jack

Hey! Sounds like you have been enjoying life up there! We are having a great visit from Isaac, after having enjoyed a short but wonderful visit from Ben and Jessica. Thanks for the new post, we really enjoy new information when it gets here. We are going to try hard to make it up after Thanksgiving for a visit and maybe some special sales! I remember catching a sale with Lisa at an UNgodly hour in the morning at Joanne’s Fabrics. Do they have an early morning sale at the BEAD shop!

Take care and have a great rest of the weekend….Love Debra
