And then it was August…
wow…been a great summer all around, but it’s really hard to believe that tomorrow is…august! geez. the past month has just gone by in a blink, and it seems like i posted just last weekend (it’s been three weeks).
obviously, everyone’s been busy, though good to see isaac and mandy’s new place in their post, plus comments. hope everyone else is doing equally well.
we closed on the palmer property since our last post, which - according to ben stevens, jr. - now makes us official part-time valley trash. yikes. we loaded a few pics of the property at the ftp location…
…they’re in the “teresa…” folder.
also, jake, his friend matt and me got to participate in this year’s aviation museum lake hood fly-by in a turbo super goose. it was great fun, and interesting after all these years of watching it from the ground, to view it from the air. pics and mpeg’s from that are also at the ftp in the “flyby” folder.
jake is in atlanta right now, and returns on the 5th. we really miss him…he just finished visiting granny and grampa in west virginia, and had a great time there…golfing, horseback riding, playing horseshoes, hearts (he shot the moon one game), an outdoor performance of “annie” at grandview, etc. teresa and doug were planning to take him to an atlanta braves game this weekend, and other adventures in the atlanta area.
sam’s had a great time playing soccer this summer. today is a two-game jamboree finale, so we’re looking forward to that. he’s quite good, and we also discovered that he’s very fast. the coach stressed “fun and respect” from the outset as their primary objectives…gotta say that he followed through on that theme, and it’s been fun to see a motley collection of 6-8 year olds learn teamwork and sportmanship in a fun, spirited environment.
cheri and i have been really busy at work…it’s been unseasonably hectic for both of us this summer on the workfront. for cheri, i think it’s been mostly an anomaly…for me, it’s mostly due to andrew’s sabbatical which runs through august. in the mix of business as usual, there have been a few very fun projects…might share a couple of those later this month on the ftp, including one that cheri and i have worked on together (it’s in the “so-far-so-good” phase at the moment).
last, i need to call jon and lisa today. we’re tentatively planning to meet them in palmer tomorrow at snowgoose, but not sure if that plan is still alive or not (been awhile since we made it). anyhow, we’ll probably head out there one way or another…the developer is going to put a septic tank and drain field in for us (a freebie), so we need to locate that at the building site.
looking forward to catching up with everyone…also, wondering if tim is still deckhanding, or did he pull the plug and head south? we’re hoping to see him here in anchorage before he leaves, so if he’s still there, let us know…if nothing else, we’ll head out to the airport to see him off.
love, jack

Hey Jack:
Sounds like summer in AK! We are all fine….and yes, Tim is still here until the 19th, I think. I got a guy, Abe Porter that will take his place when he leaves. That was a relief, as I was sweating pulling the anchor. We have been doing well….lots of whales, silvers, and good halibut. Tim has come into his own on the boat….does not buy that old “captain is always right and things that go wrong are the deckhands fault” deal, but what do you expect from a Wedin/Christian? It’s been good for me and him. He doesn’t fish all the time, but he DOES enjoy the wiggle. He camped out on the boat last night and had pizza delivered…..said I never give him enough time to REALLY clean the boat, so told me to go home and he’d stay overnight. All was well in the morning. Well, all for now. We have the 6th off (for sure)and the 8th is wide open at this time. Got a pretty busy August going, but lots of open space in Sept. All for now. Love, Pete
