Tim’s First Halibut

PeteRESIZED_TIMS_1ST_HALIBUT.jpg
Hello Everyone:
I’m at Debra’s computer, as I wanted to upload a photo of Tim. Let’s see, he arrived in Anch Friday and stayed with Jack and Cheri overnight and then Jack and Tim headed down to Soldotna to meet up with Debra. It’s good to do that drive at least once and can’t imagine a better way than six inches from the pavement! Anyhow, we had Father’s Day off, so we went fishing. We caught four kings and Tim lost a nice one right next to the boat. We had ol’ Slim (not the one you all know, but a good friend just the same) and he is a bit challenged when it comes to the netting of salmon….anyhow, Tim did land a small king, which we froze and will be sending to the Christians along with Tim’s first halibut. We had Monday off, so we worked in the yard (he is a trooper!) and then Tuesday we attempted a halibut trip with six people, but it was ROUGH and with not much fish biting in the bay and several of our crew sick, we decided to call it a half day, so we had no chance to hook Tim up that day. Wednesday was another “blow-off”, so we didn’t get a chance to hook him up until Thurday (yesterday). Well, with calm seas and a nice warm breeze, we went to the middle of the Inlet and had a ball. Got sixteen nice halibut from 15# (mine) to 65#. The box was FULL! Tim’s fish pictured here was well over thirty and just a nice fish for eating. Him and I worked on our filleting skills while underway and I let a client steer the boat while we did that. Tim did our four while I got through most of the others until we stopped to aid a disabled vessel and ended up towing them back to the harbor (12 miles at 10 kts.). Made us a little later than we would have been , but made us feel good, eh? Well, am sure we’ll have more adventures to report as the days grind on. We have today off, so more yard work is in the plan (although I haven’t seen Tim yet and it’s 11). He has already learned to get rest whenever possible! All for now, will keep you all posted. If the Newtons are here, Carl, Carol, and Mim were here with a bunch of relatives from Michigan for a little party after what was supposed to be a half-day fishing adventure, but they were the ones that got blown-off on Wednesday. Anyhow, they all said hi and Carl wanted your e-mail address. Did you say you were unwired at home? You all take care and we are looking fwd to having family visits soon. Love,

Sounds like Tim is off to an exciting start. I hope we can make it down soon. I have to have a garage sale first. Homer will be my reward for unloading a bunch of junk on ususpecting garage sailors:)

hey…nice fish, tim! sounds like things are going great guns, despite the spotty weather. was talking to dee and she reminded me that they were headed down there for a sunday charter…told her to say “hi.” they were pretty excited!

it’s been incredible here…sunny every day and in the 70’s. the boys and i lucked into some vip passes to a blue angels show today (navy league…same group that got us on the submarine cruise). anyhow, it was beautiful, and the blue angels were extraordinary, as always. i’ll upload a few pics tomorrow…got some really good ones this time.

anyhow, glad to hear all’s going well…looks like tim is having a great time.

    more tomorrow.

p.s. good luck on that garage sale, lisa! let us know if you’d like to conduct one here!
