Summer begins at the end of the road…

This is the first real chance I’ve had this week to post at the org. Fun to see Isaac’s pics and post this morning, and interesting to do a bit of coast-to-coast coverage with this one. Ha. We had a great trip to Homer, and it was pretty much non-stop fun the whole weekend.

We stayed at the “Island Watch B&B” just up the hill from Pete’s and Debra’s, but we hung out at their place most of the weekend. The seafood feast on Friday night was spectacular, and we followed with a great dinner at Cups on Saturday.

Fishing was great as always, and though a relatively short trip, we brought home a nice king salmon (courtesy of Jake), and a freezer box FULL of halibut (thanks in large part to the 100 pounder Capt Pete landed). I’m still wondering how that works. I spend hours hauling up umpteen 10-15 pound pups, then Pete comes over (right NEXT to me) and hooks a hundred pounder on his first drop. I think he has some secret “big fish” sauce he puts on his bait.

Nathan was a gem, and not only caught his limit but also skippered the boat masterfully. Attached here are pics of Nathan and Jake at the helm. We also took a nice family cruise to Gull Island…unfortunately, I missed that, but everyone reported a great trip at dinner Saturday night.

As an added bonus, we tried a Skate appetizer at Cups. Some of us found it “interesting”…some of us thought it was somewhat south of interesting.

I’m also attaching an eagle pic. This was roosting in a Spruce that towers directly of Pete’s and Debra’s place. Pretty cool. Anyhow, a huge THANKS to Pete and Debra for hosting a terrific weekend. We all had a blast and can’t wait till our next journey to the end of the road…and beyond! Jack

    Hi,
I didn’t realize all that was going on, but we landlubbers sure had fun socializing in the Woody. It was great to be able to fit everyone in one vehicle for shopping and visiting all at once. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I had only had the Volvo. Have a great three day weekend! Debra

    Hey Jack:
Yep, that was a doozy of a weekend….glad you guys made it down and we were able to get out and do some fishing. Would have been fun to have a day off, but it IS the season. We did manage to put together a decent supper Friday and really appreciated the dinner at CUPS….out favorite! Finally got the lawn mowed tonight, such as it is and if there is any time at all this weekend, I plan to get a couple of raised beds done for Debra to plant. Didn’t get after as much landscaping as I had planned this spring, but there is always the fall….Sure enjoyed having the boys and Marina around….great times. Well, please feel welcome anytime you need a break. We’ll keep the double room open, as we plan to put Tim in the twin room. Take care, Love, Pete
