One landed on me, and I’ll admit that I freaked out a bit brushing it off my arm. I found this cooperative red-eyed bug on a plant in Rock Creek Park.

hey isaac…nice bug…the red eyes are a kick, and i never noticed that before. interesting.
i remember going to rock creek park with my dad and jean when deb and i went back there to visit in ‘79. it was a funny visit, and deb and i rode in the back seat of their canary yellow VW convertible (top down, of course)…funny stuff!
won’t be long now and you’ll be getting into that 90 degree/90% humidity zone…thank god for air-conditioning, eh? we’re headed for homer next weekend…wahoo! l,jack
I love insects as long as they don’t have the audacity to land on ME. They probably feel the same about me.
The cicadas I’ve seen so far are pretty lethargic. If they do happen to be flying around, once they land on something they stay there unless forcibly removed — running and violent arm flapping seem to work well.
Rock Creek Park is pretty strange compared to other urban parks, more like a slice of wilderness than the usual family-friendly collection of grassy expanses, playground equipment, tennis courts, and so on.
I heard about a guy today who cooked up a batch of Cicadas 12 I think, only to find out after eating them that he was allergic to cicadas. Jon
Apparently they’re pretty tasty.
