spring break-up/out/dance/fast

hey all…really enjoyed pete’s post this morning, and thought (for the umpteenth time lately) that i oughta get org-anized. so…just got about 10 minutes here…we’re headed for our monthly costco trip (and pre-easter shopping), and wanted to get it out of the way before the weekend.

here’s a quick laundry list of the latest…

we returned from maui the evening of the 29th. pretty hard to complain about ANYWHERE in hawaii, but it was pretty unanimous: we like kauai a LOT more than maui. lotta reasons for that (i won’t go into them here), but it all depends on what you’re looking for from a vacation, i guess. we did have a wonderful time, but next trip it’s back to kauai, or maybe the big island, molokai or even oahu…

jake (7th) and sam (1st) both got great report cards this quarter! both showed a LOT of improvement, and we’re very proud of them. the transition for jake has been challenging (going from one teacher to 7), but he’s settled in nicely and really turned the corner this quarter. sam has gotten over a lot of his self-consciousness, and his teacher reports that he’s a MATH WHIZ (cheri and i are not sure where THAT comes from).

we’re mapping out the spring and summer, and here are few maybe’s and for sure’s: we’re going to try for a 3 day weekend in homer by the end of the month (depends on roads, weather and whatnot). jake and i are going fishing with pete on may 22 (the whole family may make the trip to homer, and we’re hoping that jon and nathan will join us for fishing). cheri’s sister teresa is coming up from atlanta in late june for a couple weeks. jake will be returning with her to visit atlanta and west virginia for about three weeks in july. then, tom (cheri’s dad) may come up for a visit in late summer (maybe anne, too!). sam is signed up for soccer, and jake is probably going to rejoin his team of four years, too. we’re planning a trip to seattle this summer…not sure yet if it will just be cheri and me, or all four of us. we figure we’ll either go early summer…or late summer. if jon and lisa are not moving back to anchorage this summer, we’ll very likely take an extended weekend up their way…no dates in the works yet, but we sure enjoyed last year’s trip up there…maybe we could meet for a camping trip in denali…or, the McKinley Princess Lodge (ha). other plans afoot…it’s gonna be busy, for sure, but we’re looking forward to lotsa fish, sun, top-down jaunts, and good fun.

visited isaac’s site, and there are some terrific pics there! the blossoms reminded me of 1969…wow, 35 years ago. yikes.

gotta run. costco calls.

hugs around and love to all! jack/dad/grampa

    Hey Jack:
I’ve heard the same report about Maui from most family tripos there. I have heard it’s a great place for singles to party. Am sure there is something there for everyone, but would have to concur on the Kauai preference. The little we saw of Oahu di not impress us, although the Bishops Museum and Pearl Harbor were worthwhile….too many people. Kuaui reminds us of somewhere we’d like to live…only warmer. Glad to hear you are thinking about coming our way….snows all gone and things are trying to dry up between rain squalls. Looking fwd to the 22nd. Are Jake and Sam both coming? Jon should check in with ERA for flight deals. They had good weekend deals….although I’m not sure if they fly to FBKS. The Seattle visit sounds fun and a good idea. We just are not sure if we’ll be able to swing that this year, unless we do it in conjunction with our DC plan. Last I heard Christmas was at your house, so we can make that, for sure! Let’s all hope for some new posters or commenters. Love, Pete

We look forward to a visit where ever we meet. We would love to take the boys again. Then we could meet you for a camping trip. Denali would be great or a lake somewhere would be nice. We will have to look at the maps and see what looks good. Take Care. Have a Happy Easter.
