Blah, Blah, Blog!

Hello Everyone:
With Spring every year comes the Great Alaskan Sportsman Show. Debra and I travelled to Anchorage on Wednesday March 31st and set up our booth, which we’ve done since 1995. It’s a fun show and we meet new clients and also greet lots of folks that we’ve had the pleasure of taking fishing or hunting over the years. We premiered our new king salmon mount there and it was a hit. We also get to see the Wedins that live in town. We stayed at Ben and Jess’ house and brought their cat home with us while they are in Hawaii. Jack made it over to the arena and we got to spend a little time together and even got to do a little mechanic job together when the Chamber of Commerce slot machine broke down in the middle of the Saturday rush.
Winter has been fairly tenacious and brought us a blizzard the three days prior to leaving for Anch. Fortunately, the day we tavelled turned sunny and the roads were pretty clear. In the meantime, the wind is blowing and the bay is rough, but I have got out a couple of times since getting home on Monday. Have a few chores to do on the boat, but we are ready to go for the most part. We are adding a 20,000 btu furnace to the cabin this year. Should be cozy.
Those you who have met our deckhand Kenny, will understand the sense of loss we are feeling with him moving on to a bigger boat. We wish him well and hope it brings him the riches he desires. Big shoes to fill there. He has graciously offered to help train whoever comes to work with us this year. Last I talked to Tim Christian, he was interested and we are hoping he comes to stay with us this summer. No doubt he’ll be able to do the job and it will be fun to have a nephew around.
If you haven’t checked out Isaac’s site lately, it’s worth a click. The cherry blossoms are in bloom there and he has an impressive collection of his favorite images. The San Fransisco sunsets brought me back to a much warmer time. I also checked out the other offerings on the link page and the eyecue radio site was fun….the org has grown slowly to include allot of what we all are. Sure wish it could become more all-inclusive, but for now it is a great way to keep in touch and stay familiar.
Not sure what our travel plans will include in 2004, but we ARE going to try to make it to D.C.Debra has never been and it’s been 35 years since I’ve been there. In the meantime, you are all welcome to come visit…..we’d love to have you. Have a good Easter and Spring. Love, Pete

pete…have the boys home today (in-service), and the eye cue agenda is pretty full, but wanted to comment on your post before i jump onto the roller coaster! hope the deck-hand thing with tim works out as planned…also, that was a nice tribute to kenny there and i hope he sees it.

more soon. the weekends are gonna start zinging by here as the weather improves…we’re planning to make the most of them this year! we’re on a “home improvement” (and anti-clutter) campaign this weekend…also, we’re halfway there on getting jake moved to the bedroom nextdoor upstairs, so we’re going to give that a good shot, too.

more soon! maybe i can take a little time and post today, too. hugs around…jack

hey pete…in the general absence of org-tivity here, thought i’d share another comment on your post. the slot machine adventure at the show was a kick! it really did remind me of the old VW days, especially when we found that maintenance book squirreled away inside the machine. anyhow, that was really fun, and satisfying to team up on solving the problem.

i meant to ask you about that king mount in the booth, but the question got lost somewhere there in the general hubbub of the show. that’s a beautiful fish, and caught my eye first thing when i got there. also, it diversifies the interest, too, since before it was pretty halibut-dominant. i’ve shared stories about our last two combo trips (and coming in with limits of halibut and king salmon)…that always draws “oooohs!” and “ahhhs!” unlike most folks, i favor king salmon over halibut, but the lure of landing both on one trip is a real draw for everyone!

the d.c. trip sounds like a great idea. looking forward to pics of that! we’ll have to work that leg into our next visit to WV. it’d be fun to stop in and see isaac and mandi, and a real thrill for jake and sam to see some of the d.c. icons.

hope you’re haulin’ a bunch over the side today! happy easter! jack

Hope Preshy doesn’t get trapped in the wall again!

The cherry blossoms are mostly gone now, replaced with leaves. This is supposed to be the biggest year for tourism here in DC since 2001. Pretty funny since the Mall is a mess due to various construction projects.
