Once Upon a Mexi-can’t…
hey all…
the boys each had a friend over for a spend-the-night, but it was fairly mellow (compared to the last one where we had 8 of ‘em). cheri and i tried to watch “once upon a time in mexico” (despite jon’s warnings), but we realized about 10 minutes in that the plot/storyline/continuity were aimless/disjointed/pointless (which was pretty much what jon had told us). there were, as he’d mentioned, moments that were engaging and well constructed, but then it cuts abruptly to an unrelated scenario that left us wondering, “was that a flashback, or…?” anyhow, the previews (and the cast) make it sound/look VERY appealing…the title, however, should have been: MAD MAGAZINE, THE MOVIE (IN MEXICO!)…
we’re headed for the fur rondy dog races in a bit. they didn’t run the past couple years and we missed ‘em…it’s a fun event, so we’re looking forward to that. hope everyone’s doing well…been a little quiet on the org and e-mail fronts, but i sure understand how that happens. i’m on the web and e-mail for 8+ hours a day, and i have a hard time getting a visit to the org in, or firing off a quick e. anyhow, hope everyone’s doing well…hugs around, love, jack (aka, dad/grampa/uncle)
p.s. my favorite book this year (and in my top 5 all-time): The DaVinci Code.
JW reviews of movies we’ve seen lately: Secondhand Lions ***** (REALLY great film!) The Whale Rider **** (good story, nicely told…the heavy-handed patriarch stuff gets a bit tedious) - Under the Tuscan Sun *** (a tolerable chick flick…make that, CHICK flick) - Open Range **** (most everything robert duvall appears in is good) - Lost in Translation *** (it’s ok, and worth watching…but i honestly can’t figure out where all the critical acclaim has come from…should NOT have been nominated for ANYTHING) - Runaway Jury *** Pretty entertaining, good friday-night-after-a-long-week movie…and a fun “gotcha” at the end.

Thanks for the movie reviews. Jon is laidup so they will come in handy. The MRI tech said his knee didn’t look good. What ever that means. I guess there is alot of fluid. We will have to wait and see what the doc says on Wednesday.
Marina is sick. She puked last night and this morning. I am hoping it is over but she isn’t hungry yet. Hopefully no one else will get sick.
Enjoy Fur Rondy. Our winterfest starts this weekend. Hopefully that means the ice park which we really enjoy. Take Care.
Hello, I just tried to send a comment but it blanked out on me. Pete is busy installing engines today, and Isaac sent me a router and some cords and things to make his laptop wireless but I have succeeded in only losing his email program. That is why you haven’t heard from him for quite awhile, he has only been able to use his laptop for Shanghai–which he is getting pretty good at by the way. Thanks for the movie recs, we almost watched Secondhand Lions the other night but I was trying to install these great toys Isaac sent just before they headed off to the Caiman Islands out of cell phone range I imagine. I think I better bite the bullet and admit that I need professional help. Lisa, long time no hear but from your comment sounds like you have your hands full up there in the Far North. Love to all, Debra
Isn’t Once Upon a Time in Mexico part of a trilogy? I saw it pretty recently but don’t remember much except for Depp’s character’s eyeless scene, using the kid to navigate. I liked Lost in Translation but must admit I’m biased towards movies like that. The things I liked were Bill Murray, the music, fixation on the two characters, and the silly cultural misunderstanding jokes.
Hope mom gets that router working soon. Once they’re set up it’s all good, but setup can be maddening.
