Back to school

After a fun end-of-summer flurry of activities, we made it through the first week of back-to-school in good shape. Lots of changes this year…Jake’s in middle school now and starts an hour earlier than Sam, who is settling into first grade very comfortably. Jake is riding the bus to and from school for the first time, and Sam has graduated from his daycare of nearly six years to the Boys and Girls Club after-school program. So, lotsa big changes, but we’re settling into the new routine day-by-day…we should arrive on some new frontier of “normal” in the next week or so.

I tried Isaac’s wedin.org chat last week. I’ve only done the chat thing a half dozen times or so, and only on commercial travel or retail sites. Most of them have been awkward and more trouble than they’re worth. Anyhow, this was great! Easy to get logged on, and the chat process itself is simple and fun. I’m looking forward to exploring it further, and Isaac is looking at various upgrades to make it even more efficient and user-friendly. The potential seems great, and this looks like a fun possibility for a “virtual reunion.” I’d invite anyone in the family to give it a whirl…essentially, anyone can chat with anyone any time. And, it can handle several different chats at the same time, OR a bunch of us contributing to one chat. As a chat novice, I just wanted to share that this is really easy, and good fun.

I’m going to try to remove the two photos I uploaded to wedin.org (or have Isaac do it if I can’t figure it out). I was pleased that I could actually get them to work in the first place, but they take up a lot of valuable real estate, and in the future I’ll just link text contributions to our ftp site (where the photos can be accessed if someone wants to see them).

I hope this new wedin.org web site Isaac’s developed will attract more contributors in the months ahead. This new format is a LOT easier than the old one…the wiki was too tricky (for me, anyway), but this new format is fairly easy and intuitive. Anyhow, nothing can take the place of in-person visits, but this site could become the next best thing. It’s a great place to share the latest-greatest among the family, and also a good place to link to photos and mpeg’s. And, if we could schedule a family-chat once in awhile, that could be a lot of fun.

Well, it’s a beautiful day here (which is a real bonus in these part this time of year), so it’s time to get out and enjoy some of it. Sounds like the weather in Seattle, Olympia and Portland has been pretty incredible lately, too! And, for the Mariner fans in the family, we’re anguishing here, too, in the midst of this recent losing streak. What HAPPENED to that team that throttled the Yankees in New York early last month???

Sunshine beckons. Hugs around and love to you all from the Lake Park Gillian-Wedins.

Love, Jack

Oh, how I miss the Mariners and their inevitable season-ending meltdowns. It’s a little early this year though, isn’t it? We’ve decided to adopt the Red Sox since they seem to have similar post-season mojo.

    2. Yeah, the M’s are in a slump that just doesn’t seem to end. The fact that they haven’t been able to win series from the Orioles and Devil Rays has been inexplicable. The A’s just dropped 3 of 4, and the M’s could have easily recaptured the Pacific lead. Instead, our pitchers look like they’re throwing whiffle balls and the bats appear to be made of balsa. Yuck.

We’re still hopeful! Hard to get up for the cellar-dwelling Rangers, but they HAVE to. Oakland isn’t gonna give ‘em many more chances to recapture 1st place, and I think Boston is going to win the Eastern Division. We could easily find ourselves chasing the Yankees here for the Wild Card…who needs THAT???

In case you didn’t know, Jon’s a big Red Sox fan…he went to a game at Fenway this summer.
